The president i spending money on building his "center" and not putting money into fixing the buildings which are falling apart. The cafe is horrible and you can barely eat there most of the time, if you do you are hungry again two hours later. i have found some of the staff (not teachers) to be rude and not willing to assist. The over all education you are recieving for your tuition is not worth it. If you are not big on the greek system then regardless be prepared to be hasseled by them. Over the last two years I have noticed several things lacking at Winthrop especially an intellectual culture. Located in Rock Hill, South Carolina you would think the university has a secluded college town vibe - quite the opposite. The area tends to foster ignorant uneducated individuals who lack a greater understanding of the real world and the absence of social interaction only reinforces this downfall. The "beautiful town" that is Rock Hill is actually nothing more than a super Wal-Mart, a dozen title loan lenders, about 7 pawn shops and a handful of fried food pig pens - an inspiring college town? While Winthrop is cheap relative to other schools, it ended up being a waste of my money due to the lack of resources and exposure to necessary components needed for my type of degree. If you are considering this school I hope it is because they have the exact degree you need at the most affordable price. Please don't kid yourself into thinking this will be a great place to go and enjoy college and graduate with a well rounded education. Perceived Campus Safety: A+, Social Life: F Have a Question? You have to qualify as having a disability to get learning help. Two years of classes that you won't remember or have nothing to do with your major. Hair in all the food, cafeteria smells like shit. Freshman sophomores get to pick out their rooms before seniors and juniors. Expect people who you thought we're friends to keep to themselves in public and not return your waves or comments. Staff members usually have an agenda of their own no matter how many times you go to their office for help. You cannot control the air in your own dorm, it all depends on the outside temperature so basically everyone starts wheezing in the winter time because of heat and no humidity in their rooms.
