| Quite Bright | I loved Christian Brothers University. Great education, outstanding people. Because of the small classes and laid back atmosphere, you can really get to know your teachers. In my experience, you get out of CBU what you put into it. I have since finished graduate and professional school and feel CBU did much to help prepare me. | Faculty Accessibility: A+, Innovation: B+ | | | |

| Super Brilliant |
If you are a student of anything but math or engineering, then please do not go to CBU. If you have a humanities based major, then just go to Rhodes or something. In all the classes I took, there were not any high expectations from the profs. You could write papers over and over again for a higher mark and actually sit in classes where profs read non stop from cliff notes. I had one lit prof named Mary Cargil who just read cliff notes all semester, and she was very focused on running minority students out of her class. I later found out that she was teaching a class that was not in her area and I really did not feel sorry for her because she did not ever prepare for her class once.
CBU does not prepare anyone for the real world because in the real world one is not allowed to do things over and over for a higher mark. That is unheard of at graduate school. The thing that tripped me out with regards to being an English major is that the modes of research available at the University consist of things one does in grade seven, like the literary encyclopedia and whatnot. They are very behind the times with that. What was really far out is how some of the Brothers who work in the lit department use WEB CT. They use this silly WEB CT and post your homework on there hours before it is due. Or they let you take unproctored tests which just gives way to cheating. That shows that no one cares, eh? The other thing that harmed me health wise was the condition of the buildings. None of the buildings have proper a/c or heat at all. Some of the buildings have small fires start because they cannot take having computers put in their system. The Barry Building, has recently caught on fire because of such a thing. Also, you really need mace at CBU. There was already one rape in the dorms and one shooting at a frat party and the area around CBU is really dangerous. Take my work for it, you can look it up. | Campus Aesthetics: B+, Education Quality: F

Ah, the south. Gays are only barely accepted here. The unfortunate levels of oppression and bigotry that I've experienced here have been very distracting. Many people (not just those of the student body) are conservative, overly religious, or bigoted. Most of the teachers that I've had classes from are great. Some of them have terrible office hours, though. On another note, the campus is very small and so is the student population. Everyone knows everyone, even people who you never told your name to will know you.
Basically, if you're gay... don't bother; it's not worth it. Otherwise, you might not have any problems... Sadly enough, if only I did better in high school, I wouldn't be here.
Some questions that came to mind:
What condition are the buildings in? Is anything falling apart or in terrible condition? Kenrick Hall, which is an old building, is very dilapidated. Paint is peeling, windows are broken, blinds are nearing falling down and possibly injuring someone. In the bowels of the building there's apparently abestos still being used (I've seen warnings about creating "dust"). During spring time it's boiling due to disabled air-conditioning or heating accidentally left on--vice verca during the winter. Buckman hall is not so old (almost 11 years old) and showing signs of wear. Since Psych courses are given in these two buildings that's all that I've paid attention to regarding the conditions of the buildings on campus. The Mens' dorms are alright. Up to eight people can share the bathroom and the walls have a lovely cinder block design and texture (lol).
Are you wanting to live on campus? Well, the rules regarding drugs are very lenient, almost non-existant. In fact, all of the rules are pretty much like that. Is the place secure? The three-person security staff is always overworked. Cars have been stolen. Possessions have been stolen from cars, dorms, and apartments. The staff only does a half-assed job. Fortunately, the school is located in a low crime part of Memphis (crime STILL happens though). | Preparedness: -, Reputation: -
