 | Quite Bright | My advice to highschool students interested in "Mechanical Engineering" is stay away from the department right now. Underfunded. Not proper Chemistry, Math, Engineering staff lots of TA/ student teachers filling in. Tutors are older students who remembered when classes were passable not much help for engineering classes. No wonder my Chem class had avg test grades of 51-65 for the past 3 exams! And it gets even better!!! Scientific Programming had ONE student remaining out of 16 starting. Sad, powerpoints don't teach the logic of coding MATLAB, OH WELL. Differential Equations was a crapshoot that just bottlenecked a bunch of other engineering students too. Forget about the small class size concept, I would rather have larger classes with people that knew HOW TO TEACH. This new CBU is nothing the old reviews said about. Last year this was a terrific school, this year it's just transfer time. Mr.Shiue very helpful, rest of dept however not up to standards. This isn't even ranting about the Bomb threats this year at CBU, the shooting in the OFFCAMPUS student housing areas last year, and the broken bathrooms. | Perceived Campus Safety: A-, Faculty Accessibility: F | | | |

| | Quite Bright | Student Life ruins this school. This school would be a great place to attend if different staff members ran it. | Collaboration/Competitive: A, Individual Value: F | | | |

| | | | If you are a student of anything but math or engineering, then please do not go to CBU. If you have a humanities based major, then just go to Rhodes or something. In all the classes I took, there were not any high expectations from the profs. You could write papers over and over again for a higher mark and actually sit in classes where profs read non stop from cliff notes. I had one lit prof named Mary Cargil who just read cliff notes all semester, and she was very focused on running minority students out of her class. I later found out that she was teaching a class that was not in her area and I really did not feel sorry for her because she did not ever prepare for her class once. CBU does not prepare anyone for the real world because in the real world one is not allowed to do things over and over for a higher mark. That is unheard of at graduate school. The thing that tripped me out with regards to being an English major is that the modes of research available at the University consist of things one does in grade seven, like the literary encyclopedia and whatnot. They are very behind the times with that. What was really far out is how some of the Brothers who work in the lit department use WEB CT. They use this silly WEB CT and post your homework on there hours before it is due. Or they let you take unproctored tests which just gives way to cheating. That shows that no one cares, eh?The other thing that harmed me health wise was the condition of the buildings. None of the buildings have proper a/c or heat at all. Some of the buildings have small fires start because they cannot take having computers put in their system. The Barry Building, has recently caught on fire because of such a thing. Also, you really need mace at CBU. There was already one rape in the dorms and one shooting at a frat party and the area around CBU is really dangerous. Take my work for it, you can look it up. | Preparedness: -, Reputation: - | | | |
