Please don't go here unless you were on the vocational track in high school or would truly enjoy a life of menial work in a lowly position at a factory. Some technical degrees that terminate at the AS level will get you a job--at Eastman, that is--as an apprentice being paid around 40,000. However, if you value intellectual achievement at all (and, really, that is what college should be about, not a place for career, or rather, job preparation)or would someday like to get out of the noxious east TN atmosphere do not go here. Grades are not indicative of understanding and are largely dependent on the completion of busy work, even in honors courses. I thought that I would do well anywhere I went, that the thirst for knowledge would pull me through any academic environment, but I have come out of the experience disillusioned and disappointed. Do not expect any sort of preparation for a "real" college here. Two years wasted. Apply to the best schools you could possibly get into and try to get as much aid as possible there. Do not settle for this.

I hate this school. Mediocrity is praised. A's are handed out like band-aids at the pediatrician. Everyone is really conservative and blindly religious. Almost everyone in a speech class I had named the Bible as their favorite book, on completely sincere terms. The theory behind concepts is not explained at all. You're only told how to complete the homework. Math teachers only assign the odd problems because you can check your work in the back of the book. The facilities on main campus are terrible. I thought that I would save some cash by going here, but I've ended up losing my integrity. Some people even only go in the beginning to get financial aid checks. It's ridiculous. I never would have gone here if I had known how things really were.

The school over all is good, the only reason I've given low scores is directly related to a very specific incident with a math teacher. The class size is wonderful and the teachers seem to enjoy their jobs(for the most part). I do not, as a small school expect parties every weekend to be happy. My only HUGE and glaringly obvious flaw with this school is their Financial Aid Department. They are HORRIBLE. They are slow, and even vindictive. They sat on paperwork for my husband for WEEKS until we filed a complaint with the dean over the department. Likewise, every semester we've attended their fund disbursement has gotten later and later. It went from a week after verification to a month, for a school that prides itself in the non-traditional student, they do not make it easy for that student to receive funds to make things easier for them to concentrate solely on school. They also require you to have a direct deposit account with them, or they MAIL the check to you. You cannot physically pick it up from them. And the small print in their direct deposit contract agreement, they state that they can take money from your account if you owe the school money, before they disburse payments to you. I think at this point, they need to replace the ancient head of the department and get people in there who can handle the work load!!!
