Question
Yes, Memphis has a high population of AfricanAverageHistory/Histories (art history/etc.)
Yes, Memphis has a high population of African American students, but the numbers state that we whites still outnumber them a little; the school is about half and half. If you don't want to be around diversity, and will feel uncomfortable being around minorities than go attend UT Martin with the rednecks. Anyway,

There are nice and mean students of all races. Period.
The school is okay. Tuition isn't that high compared to some places, and the food is pretty decent. The professors in my department can be pretty arrogant, though.

This school is what you make of it. If you focus so much on not having a school that's predominantly white, then no you won't like it.The school isn't THAT dangerous; typical campus crime goes on, and its mostly committed by other students and not random people off the street. Just be smart and you'll be okay.
