Union is a great school, but is not for everyone. If you are looking for a small university with a Baptist influence, protective environment, genuinely friendly students, and you are treated as an individual then keep looking at Union. Jackson as a city has everything a college student would need like a grocery store within walking distance, plenty of places to eat, and places to shop. However, there is little to do and Union in comparison to a lot of schools, does not have a lot to get involved in. The school in a blanket statement are mostly white, middle to upperclass students from Tennessee. You will meet a lot of awesome people and will make friends fast, but with the Baptist influence and their rules, these people are also close-minded and judgmental when you are different. I personally had a good experience overall at Union and would recommend it to someone who chose it for the same reason I did. If you want a spiritual based small school where your name counts and are willing to overlook the rules and sometimes unnecessary standards, then I would apply. But, if you want a diverse experience where you don't have to look to be challenged as person, then I would pass.

This school is very tough and the small class size makes the individual professor attention significant. I transferred to Union from a state college and the work is a lot tougher here than a state college. Union is very conservative and they take seriously their rules on drinking and extra marital sex. The dorms are awesome but pricey and the Residence Life program tries to keep a fair amount of stuff to do for a small college. The atmosphere of Union among the students is Evangelical, loving, and right of center. The professors are outstanding because they want to actually help you out. I will say if you think that it will be hard for you to respect what Union stands for and their values then you will have a miserable time and you should find a college that is more compatible with your values.

UU has been one of my biggest disapointments. It hasnt prepared me to get a job at all and truthfully we spend our nights doing the same stuff all the time. This isnt what other colleges are like, in one word i would describe it as disapointing.
