Do not attend ACU. It is not worth the money, it is not worth the time, and you will seriously regret it.Pros:
Food was decent, the Cafeteria had a to go option which I utilized often, and the food was okay (just avoid it on Weekends). The campus centers food options were decent as well (Chick Fil A, Pizza Hut, Quiznos, and Einsteins) they did get old after a while though.
Campus is pretty, they keep it up pretty well with fresh flowers and landscaping.
Cons:
-There is literally NOTHING to do in Abilene. Pretty much everyone goes out on the weekend and gets drunk and then goes to church (classy right?). Unless you want to go hang out and the tiny worthless mall, or go see a movie your weekends will be stuck in a dorm.
-Majority of people that come to ACU come here because their parents and grandparents did. They all seem to know each other from Church camp or Church or whatever, so its really hard to fit in and make friends.
-Social Clubs, what a joke. These faux fraternities and sororities are available if you want to pay for friends. Their hazing methods are laughable, and the whole process is a waste of money. If you like paying $500+ just to make friends you might want to reevaluate your life.
-Chapel. Basically ACU shoves the Church of Christ way down your throat by making you attend mandatory 55 credit hours of chapel PER SEMESTER. If you dont go all 55 times they punish you by putting you on chapel probation. Chapel is excruciating, and those who say they actually like it need a lobotomy. Basically you have to sit through awful singing and then someone preaching at you almost every day. No thank you.
-The people. Everyone at ACU is super judgmental and hypocritical. The teachers bleep out any curse word in a movie clip and treat you like you're 7 years old. The students all act righteous and mighty but then on weekends get so drunk and sleep with everyone, but on Sunday they're all in church, and JUDGE you for not going. They will try to shove the bible down your throat, and bash any beliefs you have that aren't the same as theirs. They will try to make a bible lesson out of anything. I'm sorry, but what does BUSINESS have to do with Jesus?
-Freshman dorms gives you curfew at Midnight every weekday night, and if you're late you get fined. You're not allowed to have boys in your room unless its Thursday night, but you have to leave the door open. -Jobs. Majority of people from my department (JMC) graduate and don't have jobs. Even the star students of the department graduated and couldn't find any work (other universities this isn't the case). The internship quality is poor, goodluck finding quality internships in Abilene. The Journalism Mass Communication Department is okay, but they're SEVERELY lacking compared to other schools. The majority of funds at ACU goes to funding the Bible Department and then the second amount goes to the Business department. If you want any chance of finding a job with your degree go to a school like TCU or UT.
