While ASU's only major flaw is lack of night life, the area is what you make of it. These reviews don't really reflect the current ASU. Most people are very friendly, the professors are all wanting to be there and aren't just wanting to build themselves and their area of study up in cost of attendance and are always accessible, the class sizes are rather small which really allows you to interact as a class in discussions, and the campus is really beautiful and a lot of changes are being made to landscaping making it nice to walk around campus. While San Angelo is rather bland, having a good group of friends to hang out with is a lifesaver. Local hotspots like Francos, Seeley Flats, Cork & Pig, and the bowling alley/movie theater are all the frequent weekend spots to visit for good food and fun.

My advisor, Carrie Coe, told me the coursework for the Graphic Design program was going to be quite difficult and time consuming. Well, she definitely got one of those right. They give you a lot of time consuming work - BUSY WORK! and don't allow gifted art minds to think outside of the box. One major downfall of the ASU Herberger program is they demand you have a 3.8GPA by the time you finish your freshman semester. If you don't have a 3.8 you are forced to choose another major. WHO THE HELL HAS TIME OR MONEY TO TAKE 1 MORE YEAR OF COURSES! Of course, you can transfer credits in but you still have to take the full four years to complete a Graphic Design major. Oh, and the classes start 1x a year, there is no Spring enrollment for Graphic Design courses. The Graphic Design program is in it's infancy stage and most of the kids I'll be graduating with, myself included, will end up with $60k worth of debt while we work to pay it off with odd jobs.

After going to ASU for one year, All I can say is stay away unless you are from the surrounding area. This school is awful. I was a communication student and this department was downright sad. The equipment is dated, the computers were old with Adobe CS3 (and if you attempted to use the lab with CS4, forget about it. The software WILL crash) and the professor were there only to get the paycheck.
I lived in both Massie Hall and Centennial Village. While CV was brand new I had no complaints, massie was downright disgusting. If you do decide to go here Centennial or Texan halls are a must.
The student body consists of small town "hicks" that are not friendly at all. This was High School all over again! Please save yourself some money and go to a Community College. Don't get sucks into their excellent advertising.Oh and San Angelo is a horrible small town. Nothing to do but drink or do drugs.
