 | Quite Bright | | The faculty and quality of education is top-notch. It's not MIT, but it's close. It's a very challenging curriculum. For an engineering school, it has a remarkably strong "artsy-fartsy" curriculum as well, so if you're an engineer who wants a little literature in your life you will be right at home here. The big problem is with the non-faculty employees. The administration regularly cuts funding and fires key professors. And you're attending school with lots of homeschoolers--whose parents expect the university to keep close tabs on their kids. You may discover yourself under a lot stricter rules than you ever were at home, and may find yourself on the wrong end of a bureaucracy that has pretty much a blank check to discipline you without justification.How bad could that really be, at a Christian school? I thought the same thing. If I told you the scale of the abuse of authority that I saw, you would never believe me. Their skill at perverting the gospel to justify their own goals eclipses even the Pharisees. It is only a matter of time before this influence corrupts the students and faculty. | Education Quality: A+, Individual Value: F | | | |

| Bright | As a 1970 Graduate of LeTourneau College, my experience was at it's peak. Although the infrastructure left a little to be desired back then, the total experience of this college for a technical student was second to none. The Machine tool, welding, Auto diesel, aviation airframe, powerplant, and all engineering labs were conducted at the highest level and the faculty was the most competent anywhere. The curriculum evolved heavy amounts of practical experience in lab time for every hour of class time. Hardly a day goes by in my 40 year career path that I haven't drawn on some experience or concept learned formally or incidentally at LeTourneau. Sadly, through the years "The Tech" has lost it's link with industry, focus and become just another community college. | Starting Job: Equipment operator/development, Preparedness: B+, Reputation: C | | |

| Quite Bright | | Academics here are sometimes unnecessarily difficult. This is not necessarily a bad thing though, depending on the course. For example, if I'm being flown around by a pilot, I want to know for sure that he know's exactly how the Victor Airway system works. So my complaint is not about the academics, because in my opinion, they are as expected from a technical school. Be wary of new, incoming programs, as the school usually takes about 5 years to figure out what is wrong with their "prototype" majors. I know it's a Christian school, but a "Worship Arts" major... are you insane? It is basically a bible major with a few music classes thrown in. If you want a major that has anything to do with the liberal arts, go to a different school or to a seminary... the ones here are completely useless for any purpose involving personal critical thinking. LeTu teaches you how they want you to think, not how to think. It's not called LeNerdo for no reason. This is a school of techs and baby geniuses. Given, they can probably help you with your homework (or really tick you off by trying), but that's about all the social life you will get here. Christian fundamentalism is a prison. They shove all of their beliefs down your throat, when frankly, some people are just here to get a degree and get out. Administration is kind of like that warden from Shawshank Redemption: It will love you if you do everything it tells you to do, but as soon as you show that you are a little bit open minded it will screw you over and make your life a living hell, which is just the last thing you need with the ridiculous amount of work you end up having to do in the first place. The campus in general is very opinionated, especially the administration faculty. I feel at times that wearing my Avenged Sevenfold or Bullet for my Valentine shirts on a sunny afternoon is an act of heresy and that I should burn them as soon as possible. The food used to be an abomination, but it has improved, so I will not complain too much. But more options would be nice. The surrounding town of Longview (Lameview) is very boring and more than half of it is a ghetto or factories. As a result, you get alot of people doing random crap on their computer on the weekends. In fact, I have two friends who live on their computers and have between themselves a competition to see who can build the bigger, faster, and more ridiculous computer system. The nerd in me thinks its pretty funny, but the rest of me thinks its just plain sad. All in all, LeTu is a great place to get a technical education, especially in the Engineering or Flight department. Faculty and food are neutral, it really just depends on who you know and what you eat, respectively. Administration, social life, local town, and the presence of good free thinking sucks.
