I have some of my best memories from SHSU and also some of my worst. When I came to Sam, the theatre department was rated #4 in the nation. It was an extremely exciting environment and a very challenging one. The year before I came to Sam, the head of the theatre department retired and another person took his place. That person has really brought the department down.
When it comes to the campus its self, it is very beautiful. The spring time is one of my favorite times because of all the blooms. It's also pretty clean on campus. The classes are reasonably sized. The largest class I was in was around 150 students, but the professor had a way of making each student feel like they were noticed.
There have been several classes that the teachers speak English as their secondary language. During those classes, I have pretty much had to teach myself since I cannot understand the teachers. When it comes to clubs and organizions, everyone can find things to do. There is a group for everyone. Unfortunantly, this is a suitcase college. So weekends are pretty dead. I would recommend this college for certain departments, but not for all of them. | Campus Aesthetics: A+, Education Quality: D+ | | | |

| Quite Bright | I HATE this school, all that the student body can pride itself is that it has a ton of putdowns for other schools in the area, like Texas A&M University. The school is a dump, ALL construction goes to the lowest bidder and it shows. Mechanically speaking (as I am a HVAC commercial technician) the people that maintain EVERYTHING at this school and in the entire CRAPPY city of huntsville are complete IDIOTS. Huntsville itself is a dump, nothing more than a bunch of hillbillys and blacks; both in and out of prison. I have had several professors (about half) that were ESL (and did not speak clearly enough to understand), and several professors who are so into their own field that they have no way of explaining it to those who are not (students). The only place worse than shsu is university of houston, and the only reason thats the way it is, is due to the fact that uh is located in the GHETTO...shsu is located in a hillbilly ghetto...RUN, goto TAMU or UT, or even TT for god sakes, do not waste your time going to this crappy school. | Perceived Campus Safety: A+, Education Quality: F | | | |

| Quite Bright | Sam Houston is a fantastic school for History and Criminal Justice majors. We have the fastest growing history department in the United States and the faculty (in the history department) are all amazing. Other than that this school basically sucks. The some students are driven to do well, and, lucky for us, we don't have very much competition to be the best. However, it would be nice to have some driven, like-minded students. There are things to do outside of school as long as your creative. The one thing I greatly dislike about Sam Houston is the fact that there is a lot of crime and no one does anything about it. In one semester I have had laundry stolen from the Laundromat (and the university does not provide the dorms with individual washers and dryers so there's no other choice) many times and even had my doormat taken right from my front door. My friend's car was broken into and his window smashed in. The worst part about that is that the Residence Life people and the Resident Advisors don't care. It is a good college, if you take yourself seriously and apply yourself. The classes (at least in history) are difficult, but not absolutely unreachable. However, I would not go so far as to call it an intellectual college... | Education Quality: A+, Individual Value: F | | | |
