TLU is a great University if you are looking forsmall classes with individual attention from instructos. This is a small school and its not for everyone, but if you feel that this is the place for you, you will make friends and connections for a life time. The Kinesiology and Bussiness Departments are the biggest on campus and are very competitive. I would not change or give up anything I've learned or experienced these last four years. Go DOGS!!!!

This university will require you to take active part in your advancement. If you are not motivated, You'll fall behind people who are working hard. That means going in to San Antonio on a school night translates in to getting less out of your education.
Faculty Accessibility: A+, Collaboration/Competitive: C

I transferred to UT/Austin. History at TLU is a joke. Maybe 2 upper division U.S. history courses a semester.

I expected a superior education, and preparedness for graduate school...NOT! TLU does not offer graduate programs, so you must go elsewhere for graduate school which is better considering the undegrad program. wanted the small school experience. What I got was high school all over. The rules suck big time. I thought TLU was supposed to have a decent enough history program to get me to the next level. It just ain't so! I cut my losses, got lucky, and was selected to UT.

At TLU we were like children, not as adults. We had progress reports! The staff/faculty are generally rude, and condescending. The history department was the worse. The only good teacher was Dr. Hoffman. Dr. Sauer was atrocious. No one really knows what they are doing. There were few of those who did, but not enough for me to stay.

It was a 30K per year daycare/high school. It truly felt like high school again with all the cliques. I was bullied by a few mean girls, and mean boys too. The school could care less about the disabled. There was this one young lady with a mental disability, and she was basically to be treated as if she were able. She could not function as a ?normal? person, but since the school had to obey the parents' wishes. The poor girl needed help. I felt sorry for her, but hands were tied, and nothing could be done about it.

Most of the professors were of limited intelligence. Very few knew how to teach a class properly. My advisor was of no help, even when I had an appointment to see her. She was always busy. She was highly rude. Some of my professors were nice, but I could tell some were at the age of retirement and most were average at best. I wasn't learning anything much less getting prepared for grad school.

It was hard to get an honest answer about anything from anyone. Tutoring sucked too. The campus wasn't that safe. Any stranger could come on campus. There would be reports of young women being followed by strange men. There were also dorm thefts. I was one of the victims. When I reported it they wer like ho-hum about it.

I don't feel I learned anything, but this lesson: Don't judge a book by it's cover. Sure, it may look ideal, but ask around first. Ask the students; they usually tell you that they hate it there. Some have no choice, but to stay. However, I left after a semester. What a waste of money, what a waste of time.

I'm now in the grad school for history and am I ever glad I got out of TLU.
