 | Not so bright | | I transferred here from the University of Alabama after I was very disappointed with their Engineering program. I was a bit nervous at first because UH is a very hit-and-miss type of school. I can assure you, however, that the University of Houston does not hand out Engineering Degrees to anyone that they do not feel confident in doing so. This College is EXTREMELY challenging. The students who are currently enrolled in Engineering are either serious about their career path or are promptly kicked out for poor grades. I've easily obtained internships at large companies and have turned several others down as well. We have a new president, Dr. Khator. She has already started rattling cages, removing problematic people and moving the university it the right direction. She is asking for student input, and she is getting it and LISTENING. Needless to say, the value of a diploma from UH will do nothing but increase in value in the years to come. | Education Quality: A+, Social Life: C- | | | |

| | Quite Bright | I enjoyed my 4 years at UH very much. Cons: Though it seemed to be improving (new dormitories in the works) when I left, The Towers are the standard old prison-like dorm rooms. I lived in The Quad, which are suite-style. The Quad is older, but in good shape, and very comfortable. The campus itself is beautiful, with great architecture, and big trees EVERYWHERE. There are lots of options for on-campus dining, and two different recreation areas with pool tables and games and such for between classes. While I felt totally safe on campus, the immediately surrounding area is pretty bad. There's almost nothing near campus that you should walk to by yourself... but as long as you're on campus, or driving to your destination you're fine. The diversity if UH is incredible- when I was there, it was an almost even split between black, white, asian and hispanic students. Many of the students there are funding their own education, and people are generally friendly and hard-working. | Education Quality: A+, Social Life: C+ | | | |
