I feel it necessary to put in my own opinion because many of the comments on here are just WRONG.
First of all the notion that this is a "glorified community college" is completely ridiculous. Just look at the people who go here. I?ve heard we have higher average SAT score than UT Austin. While I think many of the classes here are pretty difficult, I do think that it varies depending on the program. I am a finance major, but I have also taken hard math classes because I am a statistics minor. Bottom line, I think my business classes are a joke, but I am finding my math classes to be difficult and competitive.

At UTD, chances are:

1) You are a foreigner from India or China (40%)
2) You are a nerdy white kid (40%)
3) You are normal but you got the AES scholarship and are suffering through because of cost (10%)
4) You transferred in from community college, live off campus, and don?t participate in anything (10%)

For me, the biggest problem with this school is the people. The buildings and the classes are OK to average, but I find it difficult to relate to many people here. Thank god I joined a fraternity, but even my patience is wearing thin because the Greek population is so small. Good luck finding a girl, because there is a severe shortage of attractive ones. BTW I live here at Waterview and I can say without a doubt white people are the minority. Just saying.

There is a party scene here, but it?s probably smaller than my high school social scene. The cops here are a real pest. They seriously come to my apartment every weekend because of supposed noise violations (I am friendly with all my neighbors and they never complain). All you have to do is not answer the door no matter what. I have had many friends get busted over my 1.5 years here.

My recommendation: try this place out for a year. I?ve made some of the best friends of my life here, which makes leaving surprisingly difficult. Again, if you are a normal person and want to stay sane here GO GREEK or at least pledge. If you are a normal person (wanting a more traditional college) and don?t have a scholarship GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. It IS possible to make friends here, but I think it?s a lot harder than it should be.

This school is improving very slowly, but at this time the scholarship doesn?t seem to be worth it anymore. Also if you are trying to CAP into UT I would recommend UTSA or an easier school, the business school only cares about your GPA.

The faculty and staff at this University is by far the worst that I have encountered in my entire college career. I have been a student at 3 universities and this one is by far the worst. The teaching staff barely have a grasp of the english language and the upper echelon staff do not care about the student body at all. They will choose to fail any student so long as they can keep students enrolled in the University to keep their pockets full.

okay, i'm just a freshman here who didnt know where to go to college. So i decided to come here because i heard good things about their academics. it's not that great of academics and i simply hate this place. You will become depressed if you come here, there is NO social life and it is the most boring place on earth, especially if you dont live on campus. This is just like going to a bigger high school except with more walking. It's also a big rip off here, it's cheaper to go to UT austin than here, all they want is your money. the campus pd gave this kid i know a ticket for running a stop sign on his bicycle! This is a message to all high school seniors and transfer students: go somewhere where you can live on campus and have a fun college experience bc your not gonna get it here. My college is fully paid for here with scholarships and aids, and i plan on transferring out of here after the year is done, even if it means college debt bc this place is just flat out boring. i almost want to drop out of college, that's how bad it is here.
