Too cold and winter is too long. Like any university, USU spends too much money on sports and publicity and not enough on students and professors. Too much money goes to science/business and not enough to humanities etc...

I couldn't wait to leave USU (I lasted 2 years). I liked my program and the professors but the students especially the hardcore LDS ones were another story. Most of them were nice at first - then they would try to convert you or tattle on you if God forbid you had... a beer! Students, even the RAs don't hesitate to call the police directly. In fact, a kid in my dorm was asleep on a couch in the dorm basement, bothering no one. Another kid (presumably LDS) went up to him to see if he had alcohol on his breath and promptly called the police. Aside from a relatively nonexistent social scene (Salt Lake City is fun but an hour and a half away..)the campus computer system was a mess and most of the dorms needed repairs. On the plus side, the school's location near the mountains makes for some beautiful scenery and great skiing. Although the tuition is reasonable, I would advise any non Mormon to think twice before attending USU. Many of the nonLDS I met left after one year due to the close-minded nature of the students as well as the lack of diversity on campus.

Logan, Utah is very boring. I've lived here for six years and I still struggle to find something to do rather than go to the movies. Almost anything you do here has to be outside oriented. You must make your own fun. Campus life is also dull due to a lack of school support for on-campus activities. It is hard to find information on clubs, scholarships, honors societies, academic fraternities/sororities, and lectures or seminars if you are interested. If you live on campus the residential staff is mainly useless, most summer housing offers no air conditioning, and the meal plan food...well, you're better off cooking something yourself. Although the campus is nice looking from the outside a lot of the buildings are ancient, falling apart with exposed piping, steam heaters in only some rooms (great for the 7 months of winter we get), broken desks or lack of them all together, and rooms too small for many classes. Then there are the teachers and some classes (mostly generals) which are taught by teaching assistants or grad students with limited teaching experience. Lastly, unfortunately when you go to talk to anyone who is faculty at this school and not directly involved with students they treat you like a number and they don't care (this especially applies to academic advisors across all departments). You are better off going somewhere other than U.S.U.
