I attended this university for 3 years as an undergrad and have recently enrolled as a grad student. The quality of the education is top notch if you are willing to dedicate the time to all the reading and assignments. The school is very strict on deadlines for submission so if you are a procrastinator I wouldn't even try it. This seems to be a by-product of having an online student body of over 70,000.

I already had a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Golden Gate University before entering a Masters Program in HR Mangagement at AMU so I can easily relate my on-line experience with AMU to the brick and mortar school environment and quality of education.

I found the level of difficulty to be exactly the same at both institutions. You do have to be more self-motivated to take an on-line program, but you already knew that going in, didn't you?

All classes were relevant, and feedback was generally quick and on the mark. I took exception to one instructor's methods and appealed to higher leadership. A thorough investigation resulted in a grade change, so it is difficult to fault the system. The system worked, it was just one instructor that did not (in my opinion). I graduated this month with a 3.93 GPA. If you can't pull yourself away from the couch to focus on studying don't enter an on-line program. If you are dedicated and focused, can write in APA format, and realize you will get out of the courses what you put into them then please sign up right away. No regrets here.
Education Quality: A+, Individual Value: F

I have been attending American Public University System/American Military University (AMU) since August 2005 when I started the Bachelor of Arts in Homeland Security degree. Being a full-time student, parent, and active duty military, it took me until August 2009 to complete my undergraduate degree. A month later, I started the Master of Arts in Homeland Security degree with a projected completion date of September 2010. I have nothing but great experiences with AMU; from individual students, professors, and faculty. Online education is not for everyone; you have to have personal responsibility for your own actions, read the student handbook, and understand your roles and responsibilities. For each class, read the syllabus from start to finish; each professor is different and teaching experiences vary from class to class; professor to professor. American Public University System is one of the few institutions that is both regionally and nationally accredited by federally recognized accrediting agencies - they are not a fly-by-night organization and are well respected in the military community and public safety community. I have been in contact with another school to complete a PhD program and they are well aware of AMU and honor their degree (as any brick and mortar school would).
