 | Quite Bright | Hi there,I'm currently attending Hollins and I'm also in the process of transfering elswhere! Please take your time when considering the school and read all the reviews carefully, I know I should have. This school is very disfunctional and discouraging. Both students and staff are not what they appear to be when you're visiting. Too much partying and drinking. I have no problem with lesbians but for god's sake could you keep it to youselves? The girls are not at all serious about studying and it's discouraging to others who are actually there to get good grades. The school work is not at all challenging and is very much like high school. I could go on but I'd just advise you to read other reviews and ask around before deciding on this one! | Campus Aesthetics: B-, Scholastic Success: F | | | |

| | Quite Bright | | Hollins University says that everyone is approachable and friendly, and that the staff is there to help you reach your true potential, but in truth, it isn't, and they aren't. In all of my years traveling from school to school in high school, Hollins is the first place where I haven't been able to find someone who is true, selfless, and genuinely friendly. The teachers- who should matter the most- are excellent. The admissions staff? Top notch. But when it comes to Res Life, Financial Aid, or even management staff, prepare to meet some of the most self absorbed, money oriented, "screw you over with a smile on their face" group of people in Virginia. The students are snooty, and if you're not willing to completely lose EVERY one of your beliefs and conform to what they say is right, they will label you as "intolerant" and "arrogant". If you're a Christian, you'd better become an atheist. If you're a republican, you'd better become a staunch Democrat. If you're white, you'd better hate yourself for it. If you're black, you'd better be prepared to experience blatant racism, and gosh-darnit, you'd better do it with a smile on your face, because no one at Hollins is racist-- we just schedule 4 Black History Month events, and cancel all of them, but it's ok because we still have our basketball games scheduled! And most importantly, if you're straight, you'd better start falling in love with women-- otherwise, you're an intolerant freak who deserves to be alienated. Long story short? I'm leaving as soon as I can. | Campus Aesthetics: A+, Education Quality: F | | | |

| | Quite Bright | I came to Hollins because I was told that you could be who you wanted to be without judgement. I was also very drawn to the film program by Klaus Phillips. All of my campus visits were wonderful and I thought the campus would be great to live on but I hate it now. I constantly feel left out, all of the students are so liberal and close-minded to views that aren't "diverse" enough that it drives me insane. I've shown up to several social events but I can never seem to find any friends and people have said very negative things about me when I correct them when they say things like "All christians are closed minded" or "christians hate gays." I'm personally sick of being stereotyped for not being as "diverse" as everyone else here. Personally this campus makes me sick because of all of the hypocrisy. The faculty are wonderful but the students are not. | Education Quality: A, Individual Value: F | | | |
