Most of faculty are very friendly and nice. However, because MBC try to "save money" so hard, they cut professors out and hires more temporary stuff. Result is pretty bad. Like, none of professor in the Business department has Dr. or Masters degree.
Faculty Accessibility: A+, Collaboration/Competitive: C

Choose your college for the right reasons. I know social life is important, but you can have a social life on any campus. The important things to look at are the attitude of the professors and the student/professor ratio. Mary Baldwin professors encouraged a lot of hands on activities which in turn gave me real life experience. Do not be fooled by the small size. Sometimes the best things to come in small packages!

Super Brilliant
I came to Mary Baldwin at the age of 13 as a PEG student...and I've never regretted a decision more in my life. Don't get me wrong, Mary Baldwin is a great school for those who want to study psych, art, or any other humanities/social science subject. But if you're a natural science major, stay AWAY.
The biology department itself has three of the most amazing teachers I've ever met. They are helpful, thoroughly qualified, and great teachers. However, if you want to be pre-med (like me), you'll be highly disappointed with the quality of the chemistry/physics classes offered here. As of right now, there is one physics teacher and three chemistry teachers. The physics teacher is actually a chemist who teaches both physics and chemistry. Therefore, the only physics classes offered are "Topics in Astronomy" and General Physics.
Even if we had a brilliant physical sciences program, I still would want to be anywhere but here. There is an unbelievable aversion to thinking; everyone just wants to find the easiest way of doing something and not think about more efficient and innovative solutions. It's like the people here just want to get through "college" so they can go off and marry their heir husband. And without boys, the girls are just badly behaved, unhygienic, and start petty drama for no reason.
Being here makes me wish that I had suffered through 4 years of high school and gone off to a better school.

Regarding surrounding community: Please note that I am not on the main campus, but at a regional campus. I am an adult student and this is my first semester at MBC, transferring from NY. My personal major (history) is thrilling, my professor is excellent. Other experiences so far are horrendous. Adult students are clearly step children of the college despite claims to the contrary. Adult dept staff are condescending and unhelpful. My other professor (English) is by far the worst professor I have ever encountered, incoherent and fanatically "Christian". If one does not speak from an appropriate "Christian" viewpoint (English from a Christian POV, what on earth does that even mean?) she deems you a "devil's child". For some reason this is OK with the adult program at MBC. It is however, not OK with me. This lunatic, who should be retired, is jeopardizing my GPA with her nonsensical, incoherent and offensive comments (she has to assume all adult students don't know anything and is angry that I do know things)and platform because I am not adequately "Christian" in her opinion. I do not recommend this college for adults, and were I a parent, my child would be out of there so fast unless the school took immediate steps to addressing the issues with some of their tenure professors -- which clearly extend beyond unacceptable behavior to legal issues. It does not surprise me that the dowry at MBC is very small. Who would support this school? It is an embarrassment to the field of education, contributing more to the unfortunate stereotyping of the south rather than contributing to a student's education. It is laughable.
