I loved MWC during my freshman year, butQuite BrightEnglish
I loved MWC during my freshman year, but eventually I grew out of it. There is not enough diversity- not just in race and gender but also in personality. Everyone is the same- preppy white girls from Maryland, Long Island, and New Jersey who wear ugly clothes and think they're awesome but are actually kind of dorky. If that describes you, then you'll love it. Fredericksburg is a very boring city, but DC's accessibilty is nice. The professors were great (for the most part) and the courses challenging, but I would have liked more career direction. The college-sponsored social events are boring and always frequented by the same people, and parties are hard to find, although searching for them can be entertaining. The campus is beautiful, as every review of the school says.

Mary Washington College is an excellent value forQuite BrightEnglish
Mary Washington College is an excellent value for youe money, even for out-of-state students. While many people complain there is nothing to do, they just arent trying. With a group f close friends, any night can turn out to be fun and eventful. My first semester was great, and I was suprised at the personal attention I received from faculty. The dorms are not bad at all, and neither is the food. The campus is beautiful, and with bus and train stations within walkin distance of campus, visits to Washington DC are easy and cheap (a bus ticket is $15 round trip). Drugs are not tolerated, and administration cracks down on drinking really hard, but I feel that that is a strength of the school. People are here to learn, and take their academics seriously. During finals week, a seat in the library was almost impossible to come by. Even though people are extremely focused on their work, we know how to have a good time! Overall, first semester has been an amazing experience.

Honestly, for freshman things are not thrown at you for things to do on the weekend. You can take the fred, public bus, into town and do something there, or if you want to party just ask around. Once you meet the right people finding things to do shouldnt be as hard. There is an "underground" Frat as well. They throw parties once in a while at a local bar called Houstons. I went to the Halloween one and had a great time. The work is hard... much harder then I ever expected, a lot of reading. I just finished my first semester at Mary Wash. It took me a while to get the hang of things - its not the same as high school - but I am positive I will do much better this spring semester. Good Luck in your decision
