horrible. i left years ago and graduated at a school where life existed. the profs at my now-graduated school were amazing and made an impact on my life. i made a nice group of close friends that i will have forever. everything where i went, umw was not....umw is dull, not diverse, no social life( and i put in a great deal of effort to make it work) . the only good thing is the appearance of campus. as someone from new england , i sought a new experience only to find sameness and every stereotype fulfilled about the south. staff was mostly unhelpful ( some of which were really rude) ....i am mostly a very spirited, sociable and fun person, my time at umw made me very depressed to the point where i got help for it until transferring. ...at umw you exist , you do not live. please, do yourself a favor, don't apply or transfer. i realize that there is a new mini town being built but that will take years to complete if that. transferring was a risk for sure, and the adjustment to a new environment proved to be a test of my character but i was eternally more at peace doing so.

Nice place, but wasn't the place for me. I thought I would like the smaller school environment but I found it to be a little mundane.

Quite Bright
I attended small private schools all my life so i thought i would be confortable in the private school vibe mary washington provides. However, i was not prepared for the hellfire i was about to endure. Mary Washington can be a fabulous place for the select few who play sports or join young democrats (hipster niche) and can rely on the social life that stems from them, however, the rest of us are not so lucky. The people are unfriendly and finding more than two friends is harder than joining the navy seals. Also i was promised a thriving gay community which is completely false becuase there are like 3 gay people on campus and about 10 million toolbelt totting dykes. In conclusion, UMW is basically a high school so if you were the popular jock/cheerleader in high school then this school will suit you just fine, good luck to the rest of you
