Quite Bright
Although many students don't realize it, the University of Mary Washington has a rather good reputation, or at least it did. Recently the university has lowered its standards slightly to increase the size of the student population. Still the school's reputation has not been tarnished too much. Some programs are more well renowned than others. The school's unusual Historic Preservation major is the best of its kind in the US, however other majors like Business are significantly easier and less renowned. Overall, the school is a good place to learn. It fosters an academic atmosphere that is in some instances a detriment to the social scene, yet if your number one priority in college is to get an education UMW offers both academics and some partying for your free time. One of the biggest draws for the campus is its beauty. UMW offers many porticoed brick buildings oriented around small picturesque green areas.

TERRIBLE AT SPENDING YOUR MONEY:

-spent 16,000 bucks on painting eagles on the road last year that are already pealing off
-spend Millions on building a new bball stadium. Thatd be great if A) people actually went to the bball games and or B) we didnt suck at bball.

-school gives out scholarships to sports kids. why? A) no one even wathces any of the sports teams here B) all the sports teams here suck. The ONE good team here is rugby yet the school doesnt support them

-No A/C in dorms. Most of the dorms here look like homeless shelters. The dorms turn into ovens during the hotter days of the years.

-Raised the cost of meal plans b/c they were 'losing money and had to.' what bs! most kids (namely girls) still have 100+ meals that they didnt use at the end of the semester that they paid for. Cmon now umw...

-pay gardners to cut the grass and care for the campus's beauty like 3 times a week. Thats a bit excessive to me. theyd save a lotta money if they didnt have them care for the campuses beatuy over excessively.

-->to some it up...this University cuts corners EVERYWHERE (these are just the few i can think of off the top of my head). You really do 'get what you pay for' as this is one of the cheapest schools in virginia.

'BIG BROTHER'LIKE HERE:

this schools got a way to like brain wash students here. Every year theres always a handful of students here who are militant about defending this school and literally work for the school for free..its weird and i cant explain it. Also the RA's are required to record who you socialize with, when you goto dinner, who you eat with, where you study, and all this other creepy stuff...how i know? im an RA. Its funny, a student in the class of 2015 FB group posted a link to this sight with the bad reviews and it was IMMEDIATELY pulled down cuz they didnt want students seeeeing it. They do this to at the food courts. When ever you leave a comment on the comment board/'tell us how we're doing board' that isnt good or isnt a compliment that gets taken down as well. This school really controls what you see..

THE SCIENCES:
The program here is EXTREMELY difficult yet it doesnt get the recognition it deserves. Also many condesending and snooty teachers in this department.

SAFETY
Campus is not that safe, youll have the occasional empty cop car to 'scare off' the bad guys parked on campus walk.

SOCIAL LIFE:
drinking in your room...going out to the occasional lame party (no dancing usually)..chilling with some friends. Nothing really here..

THE STUDENTS:
youll meet cool kids and all that (just like at any other school) but many of the kids seem to be the social rejects of HS and they come here and think theyre the cool kids now cuz theyre surrounded by other kids like them. Yeah thats fine and all but it gets annoying when they start getting prententous and dissing like radford, VT, odu, etc cuz at UMW 'we dont have greek life and we dont party cuz we're gonna get somewhere in life' attitude. Also kids say theyre very open minded when in fact they are some of the most liberal close minded people i have EVER met. Kids rat on you for cheating too...kinda sad that your 'friends' are lil gestapo.

EXTRACURRICULARS:
not bad if u get involved with clubs..and i mean realy involved.
GREEK LIFE:
its coming...
PARTIES:
walking distance which is nice. but theyre usually pretty lame.i would transfer but its so hard to get good grades here. My friend transferred to tech and she said it was actually easier there. Another friend transfered here from JMU and he said this school was harder. I got friends in 100 level classes where the class average is 60-70%...wtf is up with that? its a 100 level class ffs!!!

Super Brilliant
I loved this school, certainly not every minute, but overall I couldn't have wished for anything better. If you want to study liberal arts in Virginia this should be your top pick. This school and my internshhips through the school prepared me intellectually and socially for the real world.
Preparedness: A+, Reputation: B+
