 | Bright | People are forgetting that this is a COMMUNITY COLLEGE. Do not come here expecting to have a great social life with tons of parties and things to do. But the school does have many special occasion days, such as NOVA day, Ice Cream & Funnel Cake Day, Game Day, movie showings for current movies like The Avengers, etc. This school is set up for associate degrees and for students to have a smooth transfer to a university. Most of the people who go here intend to transfer and this school has tons of guaranteed admission transfer agreements with universities such as George Mason, Virginia Commonwealth, Virginia State, James Madison, etc. NVCC is a good college to start off at if you're trying to save money and/or get your GPA up to transfer to a university, like I am. It is also very affordable when you apply for financial aid. This school does a good job with helping students move forward. If you stay on top of your classes and meet with your advisor, you will be able to transfer and graduate in 2 years. The professors here are great. Every professor I've had was always willing to help when I needed them to. The course work is not as challenging as I was expecting, except in the science courses. The financial aid office is iffy sometimes, also, but nothing too extreme. Overall, NVCC is not the ideal school, but it is a great starting point if you want your bachelor's or master's degree. | Perceived Campus Safety: A+, Innovation: D- | | | |

| | Not so bright | NVCC is a great place to find yourself. I had wanted to return to school for many years, I was treated with dignity and compassion when I enrolled, and have not looked back. I plan on transferring to a University with the skills I need to succeed. I must admit, I am not at Nova to socialize like some of the younger folks, I want to earn my associates and move on. | Scholastic Success: A+, Social Life: D | | | |

| | Bright | I really liked NVCC - it changed my life. When I went to school I was very committed to succeeding so I could transfer to UVA, and I did. If you have the desire/opportunity to join the Honor's Program, do it! The professors and advisers are great! I feel that is what made a big difference in my experience compared to other students who feel the faculty is less invested. Indeed, there are incompetent people in certain departments, particularly pre-nursing, which I was intending to do before I decided to pursue a 4 year degree. If you intend to go the RN route, join some online forums becuase those are actually more helpful at advising people. Also, I think campue locations vary. Alexandria & Annandale seem to have better reputations than some of the others. Overall, I had a great experience and am really happy with what I received for such a low cost. | Faculty Accessibility: A+, Surrounding City: D | | | |
