 | Quite Bright | Reading all these negative reviews. A lot of it has to do with the student body, when you enter into a community college you should expect a friendly social environmental. Well it's a community college where people go take classes and go immediately home what do you expect. Overall my experience here has been mediocre, there is no student body or social life to speak of here. As to professors, I used ratemyprofessor a lot to help find professors that taught well and help prepare me for future courses, etc. That helped tremendously without choosing the right professors, I could not see how people can graduate on time or do well because a lot professors are plain terrible, from reviews, and first hand experiences (1st semester when I didn't pay too much attention to what professors I had) In all I recommend you don't care about the social life, the resources are there, ratemyprofessor, and you can choose great professors at nvcc at a great price. Do well, transfer out, let it be a small stepping stone where you had to pay the price. Either you did not do well in high school, international student coming to United States (not really a price), or you couldn't afford a 4 year university. Don't worry about the social life, there are other ways to enjoy your time in Northern Virginia, nvcc is not a real college don't expect a vibrant social environment. The education is what matters, I believe NVCC provides great resources at your hand. All you gotta do is work hard and transfer out. | Faculty Accessibility: B, Individual Value: F | | | |

| | Bright | People are forgetting that this is a COMMUNITY COLLEGE. Do not come here expecting to have a great social life with tons of parties and things to do. But the school does have many special occasion days, such as NOVA day, Ice Cream & Funnel Cake Day, Game Day, movie showings for current movies like The Avengers, etc. This school is set up for associate degrees and for students to have a smooth transfer to a university. Most of the people who go here intend to transfer and this school has tons of guaranteed admission transfer agreements with universities such as George Mason, Virginia Commonwealth, Virginia State, James Madison, etc. NVCC is a good college to start off at if you're trying to save money and/or get your GPA up to transfer to a university, like I am. It is also very affordable when you apply for financial aid. This school does a good job with helping students move forward. If you stay on top of your classes and meet with your advisor, you will be able to transfer and graduate in 2 years. The professors here are great. Every professor I've had was always willing to help when I needed them to. The course work is not as challenging as I was expecting, except in the science courses. The financial aid office is iffy sometimes, also, but nothing too extreme. Overall, NVCC is not the ideal school, but it is a great starting point if you want your bachelor's or master's degree. | Perceived Campus Safety: A+, Innovation: D- | | | |

| | Super Brilliant | The professors at NOVA are what really make the experience worthwhile. For the most part, they are conscientious, friendly and unendingly patient (given the rude behavior of many students at the college). The work is generally easy, unless you are taking a science course; this is probably due to the fact that this college is open-admission. Do NOT come here for the student body. While there is a great deal of ethnic diversity, diversity of other types at this college is rare. As of now, there are only two religious groups that have organizations on this campus (Christian and Islamic), the gay community is largely invisible to nonexistant, and the fashion sense resembles that seen in Abercrombie/Hollister catalogs. Many students here seem to stick to existing cliques and do not like to "mingle" or socialize and will rarely "hang out" after classes. Many of the students I have come across here have been very rude in class--even to the professor's face. This being said, there are a lot of grey areas--some of the students I have met here, particularly in Chem 101, have been remarkably friendly and open. Coming here as a dually-enrolled student is difficult--there is so much red tape involved in registering for courses each semester, and the bureaucracy can be inefficient. The professors' enthusiasm and friendliness are the main selling point of this school, and are the main reason I didn't give this college a "negative" review. | Faculty Accessibility: A+, Campus Maintenance: F | | | |
