Old Dominion is a good school to go to if you're from Virginia. Otherwise, good luck fitting in and finding anyone else from your state. I would say almost 85+% of the people at ODU live on average only an hour away from campus. Maybe it was just because it was my freshman year, but people also seemed pretty imature there. Dorm life was intense. Almost everyone on my floor would party on week nights, and in the moring the hallways would be a mess and ONE cleaning lady would have to clean it all up. People would play messy pranks on their friends too, and never clean it up themselves. One person even BARFED on the laundry room door and didn't clean it off so the hallway reeked for days. People were just really inconsiderate, yelling and running up and down the hallways at 3am. On the weekedns you'd have to keep your door locked so that drunk people dont wander in while you're sleep. Plus lots of people had stuff stolen. Also, if you don't want to party all the time, there is nothing to do in Norfolk. ODU is basically a commuter school and most of the people that I met were commuters so they obviously weren't on campus on the weekends, so nothings going on except parties with really immature irresponsible people. I guess in summary, Go to ODU in you're from VA, and like to party, otherwise find another school. I left after 1st semster, because based on what I had seen, and the education I was getting, out of state tuition was NOT WORTH IT.

If I had known then what I know now, I would have done my research and chosen another school. My diploma will forever be a reminder of the hazards of a life-altering choice made too quickly, and I can hardly wait to finish my bachelor's so I can transfer someplace else- nearly ANY place else- to get my masters' degree. Instructors aren't so bad, but administration is in a miserable state. I could site countless examples to prove the point, but why waste the webspace?

Super Brilliant
I just finished my first semester at ODU. I am officially a .5 Freshman! I am an out of state student. I chose ODU because for several reasons(Sports, Engineering,Diversity and Location). I am happy with my choice. I have met some genuine people and somer very arrogant people. Its life! Most of the students are from the seven cities of VA. Like Norfolk, Va Beach, Suffolk, Newport News, Hampton...yadada... There are lots of clubs and activites going on everyday. Sometimes I am so busy I miss a lot of the events I wanted to attend. Nofolf isnt Atlanta or nething but, you can find sometime to fill your balloon!

Parking is atrocious for commuter students. Dorms don't feel safe since they have had several 'home invasions' on campus in the past couple of years and Norfolk has a high violent crime rate. Art department is so underfunded they often run out of printer paper and ink in the graphic art classes. Faculty is not bad, but getting administration to correct errors is like pulling teeth. And, it seems they've spent entirely many resources on the failed Maglev project.
