 | Quite Bright | | VI is the worst school. There is nothing to do unless you want to go to the horse stables. The current president is trying to fix everything up, but there is no money. The school does little in the community so there is no respect for VI. The entire place ALWAYS smells like horse dung. The only entertainment is going to Walmart. There is one under 21 club, but it is pretty much a bunch of 12 year olds dressing up, sneaking out, and acting like hoes. There are only two parking lots, and cars in 'the cage' frequently are robbed. The 2 security guards are really old, and they frequently fall asleep during their shifts. Only equine majors get updated things because that is where the school gets the little amount of money it has. The equine students are really rude and condescending. I went as a photography major, and the only updated thing on campus was the mac lab. There is a separate computer lab for photo and graphic design students so that is where you need to go for internet. there are giant rats in the walls and kitchen. There are also ants in the radiators and huge nasty caterpillars that are in everything. The bathrooms always flood to the point in which it drains down to the floor underneath. The internet always goes down, especially on weekends. The school has asbestus and mold, and in my dorm part of the ceiling fell. [They said it was my fault that it fell, which it couldn't have been because I cannot reach 16 feet and I was on the fourth floor of west - which is the top floor.] The bathroom looked window looked directly into my window inside my dorm. The steps are very uneven, and they only have an elevator in intermont dorms. The elevator is almost always broken. the kitchen food is never fresh, and its never open when it needs to be. on weekends, breakfast closes at 9AM when nobody is awake. The food is made for old people (which is nasty) that come to dine in the really outdated dining hall. This is the only place on campus with air conditioning. I was told I would play volleyball but the coach lied to my face. Instead, they signed a different girl and they lost every game they played. The basketball teams are filled with people with below average IQ's, but they run the school. The basketball games aren't entertaining because the teams are awful. The golf boys are really terrible people and the soccer boys are just straight up nasty. They say it is a 'dry' campus, but everyone has alcohol unless your RA doesn't like you. Then the RA's will narc on you for stupid things like 'walking too loud' or sneezing and causing a disruption. This school is a party school for the area. The school is on probationary accreditation - which goes to show the teachers are terrible. There are only 2 photo teachers, Neil and Jay, who are actually really good in the field. They are the only ones that know something about photography. Also, these 2 are the only ones that will listen if there is a concern with grades or work.If you're thinking about going here run as far and as fast as you possibly can in the opposite direction. Whatever you do, stay away! | Faculty Accessibility: B-, Education Quality: F | | | |

This school has a lot of problems: 01. Its impoverished, but yet VERY expensive!
02. Its accreditation is provisional
03. It may be closing, despite repeated adm. denials
04. Student enrollment has plummeted to about 750 from 1500
05. Departments are shutting down and majors eliminated
06. Buildings are very hot, old, and falling apart
07. Some parts of buildings are actually condemned
08. School is located in the Public Housing sector
09. ALL equipment is old and run down
10. Drug crime is rampant on the Virginia side
11. There's nothing to do on campus at night
12. Campus is like a ghost town on weekends
13. Professors are (rightly) worried about job security
14. Too much uncertainty
15. $30000 a year, but many athletes pay almost nothing.
16. Cafeteria is low quality, bland, and yet EXPENSIVE!!!
17. Internet is sLowww.
18. Theater Productions are low quality and low talent
19. Science Dept is really [insert curse adverb here].
20. Dorm rooms DO NOT HAVE AIR CONDITIONING
21. Showers and bathrooms are VERY nasty. There is not much good to say about this place. AND heaven help if you ever need help from the various school staff and administration. With them you will laziness, ineptitude, and complacency that will make you sick with anger. Some people claim thet they are trying to turn the place around, and they have managed to secure some money from their alumni, but many of the issues listed above that are able to be addressed by the school have not been done, nor do I believe that they will they ever be. I have attended this college for two years. With my first major having been eliminated and now my second major being demoted to an associate?s degree I can no longer justify the time and expense of attending and will be moving on. I was not a high academic student in fact most colleges would not accept me. VIC did. I figured that if they would take a chance on me then I should do the same. I probably should have shopped around a little more. Funny thing, I visited this school back in 1997, it was not much to look at then either. Flash forward to today, and it's appalling how much WORSE it has become, but given what I know about the way this school is being run, it figures. Please don't attend school. I mean this with all sincerity. It needs to shut down. Sure, some of the professors are friendly and the TN side of Bristol is kind of nice, but know that this school should probably have shut its doors sometime in the late 1980's. Apparently the 1970's were the pinnacle time of these schools' success and enrollment. The long defunct Sullins Academy which sits a few blocks away was also an old school that began to fade away. However they had the good sense to gracefully exit, rather than fight an embarrassingly humiliating losing battle. VIC is in its death throes now. It really is. Don't go there. VIC simply cannot compete with ETSU, Radford, and King College. The mere fact they charge over $30,000 to attend classes in ramshackle buildings located in a drug and crime infested low income housing zone should tell you that the VIC is not going to be around much longer. Do not go to this school. It's not worth the money. | Friendliness: B, Education Quality: F | | | |

| | Bright | | I am from a regular city and was looking to go somewhere smaller, where there would be things to do, but where I could focus on my studies. They say that this school is low party, and it is an alcohol free campus. well let me tell you, this place is the absolute sh*ts. the facilities suck, unless you are equine. The dorms are awful, the public places never get cleaned, and the food is horrid. The dorms have not been fixed up since the 60's and since the floors are hard wood, there are splinters everywhere. The drains have stopped working 8 times in one semester, most of the doors have stopped locking because they expand when the radiators are on in the winter. half of the radiators dont work, and the other half are too hot and people burn themselves on them. the food is absolutely awful. even the 'salad bar' isnt fresh salad. there are rats the size of small dogs in the kitchens, and there are rats in the walls. there are carpenter ants, and termits, and caterpillars. there is a mold problem, and there is asbestus. one thing i can say is that they are trying to fix it up but it is very slow work. the teachers actually care, and the photography facilities are somewhat nice.i would not recommend for anybody to attend because this place is a complete dump. | Faculty Accessibility: A-, Useful Schoolwork: F | | | |
