Beautiful views. Campus is next to the beautiful Caribbean Sea. Great place to study biology or marine biology.

Question
I am an alumni that obtained a BSBrightBiology
I am an alumni that obtained a BS in Biology on the St. Thomas campus. The education I received was challenging and helped me to grow. I was able to do cool labs which included scuba diving at the beach, hiking in guts, working in the lab, or going to the beach to quantify marine life. For the most part my teachers were friendly and approachable only one had a tendency to be conceited at times. They gave assignments that were worthwhile and allowed real word application to text book theories. During the summer I was able to work on projects as a research assistant and traveled to present the results during conferences or symposiums in St. Croix or on the mainland. I was also on some of the athletic teams and we traveled quite a bit for competitions. I lived on campus for a couple years and even though there were cliques you could easily sit at someone else's regular table in the caf without causing a problem. The cafs food was great rarely, ok some times and mediocre most times. The grill or salad bar was always a good back up. Before I left there was some tension between the students and the caf manager. He had a attitude and complained that the students took too much food and that most of it ended up in the trash. Also that the students were giving their food away to non campus students or visiting family which was against the rules. The campus didn't have a night life every night but there would be events on campus especially on Friday or Saturday. If anything there were local bars and clubs you can go to if your 18 or over. Overall I enjoyed my experience and would do it again. If I could go back I would pick a different major. Mainly because I've found it difficult finding a biology related job.

Ok, here's my advice for anyone thinking ofBrightPolitical Science
Ok, here's my advice for anyone thinking of going to the UVI for a semester or a year.
I am here on National Student Exchange, and I feel like I couldn't have made a worse choice of school. It is HOT here in St. Croix and there is absolutely no air conditioning for your dorm room. The rules about girls/boys in the opposite sexes dorm rooms are ridiculous. No one is allowed in past midnight or before 12am. And don't think that they do not enforce this rule; the housing director is a complete hard-ass and will personally come and bust you. I could go on a huge rant about what a complete condescending bitch the housing director is, but there is a lot to go into.

The main thing I will tell you is not to come to the St. Croix campus of UVI. I have heard that the St. Thomas campus is a lot better.

I was also not informed that they offer no marine biology classes on the St. Croix campus, so keep that in mind.

As for the island itself, it is fun for about a month. Then you run out of things to do.
The beach is great, but finding transportation is very hard. There are taxis but if you're on a budget, the expense quickly becomes overwhelming.

One last thing, the food at the school cafeteria is the worst I have ever had in my life. Completely unhealthy and not even tasty!! Obesity is a big problem on St. Croix and I can see why!

The only positive thing about the island is the drinking age (18).
No one ever does anything at night except go to clubs and bars. This is fun, but for every night?! NO! I want to do things a bit out of the ordinary sometimes, and no one seems interested in anything even remotely out of their comfort zone.So heed my advice and don't go to the UVI.
