Coming out of high school in the states,Quite BrightBiology
Coming out of high school in the states, i moved to St. Thomas to attend UVI. I was bright eyed and bushy-tailed and couldn't wait to get started. However...once it al began i was sorely dissapointed with everything. The politics one must deal with on an everyday basis is crazy, the dorms(which i stayed in) were a joke, an oven on sunny days (no AC) which is practically everyday, and a pond when it rains, water in the rooms, hall ways...I must admit the campus is very nice, well maintained, a beach, but bring your hiking shoes becausse everything is up hill from where you are. The cafeteria serves the same food everyday, and i'd prefer card board over what is served. The cafeteria is falling apart and on the extreme end of the campus-dorms on one side cafeteria on the other. Classes aren't horrible, but professors can be very difficult to track down. There is an unmistakeable "click" mentality with the students. All of the islanders hang out with each other, and all of the white kids do the same. As a freshman i was one of three students who came from the states, all other "white" kids were part of the national student exchange program. They were there for a semester maybe a full year. It was dually noted by the NSE students how big of a joke this school really is. I hope i'm not coming across overly harsh, but i would say this is an islanders school, where their way of life and social/political bull sh*t is best left for them to deal with.

Question
I am an alumni that obtained a BSBrightBiology
I am an alumni that obtained a BS in Biology on the St. Thomas campus. The education I received was challenging and helped me to grow. I was able to do cool labs which included scuba diving at the beach, hiking in guts, working in the lab, or going to the beach to quantify marine life. For the most part my teachers were friendly and approachable only one had a tendency to be conceited at times. They gave assignments that were worthwhile and allowed real word application to text book theories. During the summer I was able to work on projects as a research assistant and traveled to present the results during conferences or symposiums in St. Croix or on the mainland. I was also on some of the athletic teams and we traveled quite a bit for competitions. I lived on campus for a couple years and even though there were cliques you could easily sit at someone else's regular table in the caf without causing a problem. The cafs food was great rarely, ok some times and mediocre most times. The grill or salad bar was always a good back up. Before I left there was some tension between the students and the caf manager. He had a attitude and complained that the students took too much food and that most of it ended up in the trash. Also that the students were giving their food away to non campus students or visiting family which was against the rules. The campus didn't have a night life every night but there would be events on campus especially on Friday or Saturday. If anything there were local bars and clubs you can go to if your 18 or over. Overall I enjoyed my experience and would do it again. If I could go back I would pick a different major. Mainly because I've found it difficult finding a biology related job.

Question
Avoid the communications degree program at all costs!Quite BrightCommunications
Avoid the communications degree program at all costs! Seriously! The advisor is a mean, vindictive bully who loves to push people around. When people push back, she retaliates both privately and publicly.

It sounds like it's a made up story, but this advisor is horrible as a teacher and a human being.
Please, please avoid the UVI communications program! For the love of God, don't take classes from this teacher.
