Question
Quite BrightPolitical Science
Bennington College is an amazing school for students who are creative, highly motivated and willing to work a lot. The college gives every individual the chance to become greatly acquainted with their interest but still challenges students to explore fields beyond their majors. The course load can be overwhelming but is absolutely beneficial. Due to the small course sizes, teachers are always approachable and willing to help with problems. Students have a lot of freedom and the only thing that is expected is attendance in class, which comes along with a very strict policy about missing classes. The social life at Bennington is quite different to most colleges because the campus is so sheltered (the Bennington bubble). Most people know each other, which means gossip spreads easily but the small size also has some great advantages. The campus feels very homey and safe and the student body can be compared to a big family. It can feel a little incestuous, as people run out of options very fast and the dating scene is pretty small. There are of course some snooty people, which is unavoidable at an expensive college but most students are very friendly and fun to hang out with. Age and year don't matter much as all students can take every class and parties are usually open to everyone.

Question
I started here a month ago, totally dreadingBrightArt & Design Department
I started here a month ago, totally dreading it, and it's been even worse than I expected. I've learned nothing. I'm transferring to art school after this year because the school insists that I take mostly liberal arts classes instead of pursuing what I want. Academically, the philosophy that they advertise does not exist and the school is an absolute joke.Socially, the place has made me absolutely suicidal. Unfortunately we do not have dorms so throwing oneself off the top story of any building would be totally useless. People are either absolute nerds or narcissistic "free-spirits" hell-bent on intimidating people by being absolutely as weird as possible. Parties are lame/contrived. You run into the same people every weekend dressed in the same American Apparel clothes talking about the same absolute BS and smoking hand-rolled American Spirits. There's also an intense sort of cult mentality that is seriously terrifying, especially in such a close-knit environment. I feel paranoid constantly about being murdered/raped/initiated into some sort of cult because of the weirdos fueled by weirder weirdos. I am by no means a conventional person but Bennington makes me want to go to a state school or community college just to escape the inbred, twisted Manson cult-type vibe I constantly perceive here. My advice: if you're level-headed and don't like bullshit, don't come here.
