Castleton has friendly students but they aren't very wordly. I am not from VT, and most of the people who go here have never even been on a plane. Rutland is full of disgusting low lives. We just got a Panera Bread and thats a big step for us in Rutland. Most guys are hicks, unless they play sports. If you don't want a school in the middle of no where, dont go here

Quite Bright
As much as the faculty really does work to fix it, Castleton's quality of just about everything is really low. Teachers are friendly, sure, but they're really unhelpful and the material is not challenging. You get the feeling after five minutes on campus that every student here chose Castleton because it was easy to get into and it was cheap. Every athelete (of which there are a lot) will be sure to rub it in your face (even though they're a bunch of D III basement dwellers). Also, from what I've noticed, about 75% of the student body is studying for physical therapy or sports administration. I hope that bunch of unhire-able meat heads have fun competing against each other for that one low-return position.

Not to mention, the school does not have itself together. I was told by my adviser that he had signed off for me to register online for classes, only to stay up until 1:00am when the server came on, and find out that he never actually did it. It's really hard to find out how you're doing, too. The entire semester, you don't get to see your grade until midterms or after final exams. Even then, I didn't know my first semester grades until almost the end of January.

As far as the campus goes, it's disgusting. My dorm building is practically unlivable. The bathroom is completely covered in mold; the door handle is green with it. There's a teddy bear under one of the urinals that has been there all semester. The rooms are falling apart; I have to report something new falling off or breaking to my RA just about every day.

The eating situation is a ripoff. If you don't have the unlimited meal plan, you will run out of meals in the middle of your week. The dining hall serves very low quality, unhealthy meals, and is your ONLY option for food (unless you go to the Fireside Cafe and use real money). On top of being the only choice you have, the dining hall is only open for very small windows throughout the day, making it very difficult to get to a meal in time to get something sometimes.I could keep going on and on, but the moral of this story is, don't go to Castleton State College.
