I graduated with a degree in sustainable Ag. and I was horrified by the way the farm and the animals were treated at GMC. Unsanitary conditions, untreated ailments, weed filled gardens, low quality expectations of goods sold from the farm etc. I believe that GMC's farm and the Ag. program could be wonderful if two things changed. A) find farm managers and paid farm workers who know what they are doing and who care about the success of the farm. You cannot teach someone how to farm well if the farm you are using as an example is in complete disrepair and run by a man who has no practical experience and a woman who wont stand up for what is right Especially when they are completely unwilling to learn from anyone but each other. And B) start allowing students and professors as well as other professionals in the field to look at things with a critical eye and begin to change things. Farming is a fluid act and will not be successful unless allowed to act as such. Each day is different and someone must be in charge and be willing to roll with these changes. In my opinion the best thing GMC could do is fire Kenneth Moulder and Baylee Drown and find someone who cares about the success of the farm and of the students. Some farming experience would be helpful as well.

Attended GMC for 1 semester and despised it, despite making friends. Many wanna-be hippie students were self-absorbed. Teachers were arrogant and weird and unhelpful. Waaaaaay too expensive!!!!

Pros-
*Being naked in Vermont is legal...
*The "backyard" of the school is beautiful and you can pretty much do whatever you want back by the river...

*Teachers here are AMAZING. they are laid back, always available to help or just hang out...
*You will not find people as great as you do here (if hippies, environmentalists, and music-lovers are your thing)

*We have a farm, with working oxen, and it is a great thing to have on campus (RAW MILK!!)
Cons-
*The administration here care more about money than YOU.
*It is MANDATORY on-campus living for all 4-years(literally, you will not get off campus unless you are +23, married, or disabled)

*It is mandatory to be on the meal plan for all 4-years (literally, and it costs $4,000 just for food per academic year which is about 8 months...-do the math)

*Because we are advancing to be a more "sustainable school" (at least more so than others), we are gaining attention now for the first time. This causes a lot of what we do to be fake, so we can attract more students and press.

*GMC is trying to change the look of the student body (they want less "hippies" which in actuality are the ones who are the most passionate about what they do, in my opinion)

*There are only about 500 students and 2000 people total including the town where the college is. There are two bars in town, but besides that NOTHING.

If you ski or snowboard, you may like it up here because killington is only 40 minutes away! But if you like to make your own decisions about where you live and what you eat, DO NOT COME HERE! YOU WILL REGRET IT!
