| Quite Bright | BCC. It seemed like a good idea. It is a relativily nice campus, and is not too far from Seattle. But BCC has some problems. First there is the problem of simply getting in the classes you need! BCC is way crowded with students looking for a less expensive start to thier education. I have had trouble getting in some required prerequesite classes for my Interior Design major (I was on a waitlist) and this can really mess up your whole school plan. Another problem is that the Interior Design program at BCC is a technical/professional program and only offers a associate degree, which would take an average person 4 to 5 years to complete! I can't wait that long for an associate degree. But there are few options as far as interior design in washington state. In general the classes are okay, some feel like high school, others are completely annoying because of all the older people in them. These 'older people'(age 30 and up) are the ones who fill the open seats for the classes, making us fresh out of high school students have to wait for an opening. There is also a lot of "cut throat" competition among design and art students. This can be very tiring, as we all try to outdo each other. And social life? What social life? BCC is pretty much dead when it comes to that. Most people generally keep to themselves or hang out in thier little groups. People here are not the friendliest Iv'e encountered, and much of the school is dominated by asian foriegn exchange students, who make up I'd say 45% of the school. So It can be hard finding someone who speaks the same language. Overall, BCC is so-so, but its leaning towards the lame border line. If you want the true college life experience, BCC is not for you. Or if you want a realistic interior design program either. | Scholastic Success: A, Social Life: D+ | | | |

| Super Brilliant |
I came to BCC after an erratic academic history. I was at a low point when I arrived, but eager to turn things around.
I had few of the experiences described by the other posters. The first counselor I saw steered me into a journalism class, and I have thrived.
The administration is exceptionally open and friendly, and I have spoken many of them. Most of them share a passion for engaging students.
BCC has speakers on campus every almost every day of the academic year. The point is to teach students about larger issues and the world, and to develop leadership skills. This is not lip service but a primary mission of the college.
The college is not snooty. There is a population of rich kids with limited interest in academics here, however. I don't pay much attention to them because they've always dropped out of class by week 4, and because they are far too cool to pay any attention to me.
The important part of the campus is the working poor, the single moms straightening their lives out, the Running Start kids who are so excited and so brilliant, older people who are rebooting their lives, people learning to read, or speak English. For us, this college changes lives.
Almost everyone I've spoken to, from the college president on down (met her my second month here) is passionate about giving people the opportunity to change their lives for the better. It's not just lip service, it's the real deal.
My advice would be to get involved. Take part in class discussions, sit in the front and raise your hand (not in the back listening to your iPod), be uncool enough to care.
Go to the Student Programs office and find someone to talk to (it should only take 15 seconds or so). Join a club and get engaged with the world. Remember, this is real life. If you are too cool for that, you won't be happy here. Go to Wazzu, you'll love it. What I did agree with: BCC is as ugly as sin! It's like a cross between an outdoor mall and an artillery bunker! | Faculty Accessibility: A+, Campus Aesthetics: D | | | |

| Bright | Very difficult coursework for a community college! Lots of busy work and heavy workloads. Check MyProfessors.com to avoid the bad teachers. Not very friendly students for the most part. This is where you should go to save some money before you make it into a 4-year college, not where you should go if you want to make friends or want an easy school. Its Bellevue, so most people are rich and snobby, but a few are nice. Be prepared to work hard for good grades!! Good luck to all who go to BCC! | Surrounding City: A, Useful Schoolwork: D- | | | |

| Quite Bright | BCC is ok. I'm doing Running Start there. If you want you can slack off but for the rest of us there are actually classes and teachers that can push and develop the student body. | Education Quality: A, Campus Maintenance: C+ | | | |
