| Quite Bright | This is my first quarter at this university so my review is really bad. I came from the community colleges and this was a huge culture shock for me. I feel like one among thousands, just a number being processed, a small piece in the big factory. Class sizes are really big; TA's grade the homework. The cost of living is outrageous. People here are arrogant, self-absorbed, unfriendly, far too liberal, and uninteresting; I won't be making any friends here. I'm in my 3rd year now towards my B.S.E.E. degree (or B.S.M.E, haven't decided yet). Probably gonna do BSME. Anyway, this place just processes students in huge classes and due to budget cuts, resources are limited and you will be highly stressed unless you are used to being in big classes and not mattering. | Campus Maintenance: A-, Collaboration/Competitive: F | | | |

| Not so bright | Classes are huge, even upper level. Halls and desks are horrible - two hour class is a torture! You're mostly taught and GRADED by TAs who are not knowledgeable and don't give a damn. There are only a few worthy professors, many are ridiculous, biased, or just unqualified. Campus is huge, often can't make on time for the next class. Theft is common on campus. If this is such a good and picky school why do they accept so many thieves? UW district is full of homeless. Daily reports of robberies, drug-related crimes, assaults, etc. Not safe at all. Seattle is not cheap. I'm extremely dissatisfied with the quality and price of this school. | University Resource Use: C, Useful Schoolwork: F | | | |

| Quite Bright | While some students have expressed disappointment with the introductory courses, you will find that this is true across disciplines. I believe that this is due to the high caliber of student that is admitted to this university: test scores and GPA tends to be above the national average and this school is the flagship school of Washington State, drawing it's most promising students. Within my department, once I began taking the upper-level courses, I discovered that the professors enjoy challenging you and are generally open to different, and often controversial, topics for research papers, so long as you are able to provide a sound (and fair/balanced) argument. Once students begin the 300- and 400-level courses, they will hit their stride and find that the courses they take will challenge them as much as they desire to be challenged, both in classroom discussions and in conducting research. | Scholastic Success: A+, Innovation: F | | | |
