 | Quite Bright | | This really is a party school. Students are boring, self-absorbed, and politically indifferent. Both campus and surrounding community are decidedly conservative. The classes are neither outstanding nor completely terrible, but the required courses such as Gen Ed and English 101 are an absolute waste of time and money for all involved. Students are not encouraged to think for themselves, or rather, not to think for themselves if they're going to be thinking about something other than the status quo. Attitudes expressed in the school newspaper are decidedly one-sided and rarely challenged by students at all. The school itself primarily spends money on sports, and will raise your tuition once a year in order to pay for its brand new "world class gym" and fully pressurized indoor football practice area, while complaining that it does not have enough money to support the public transportation system that helps students get to and from class. All of this, combined with the fact that the town of Pullman has not much to offer in the way of entertainment or shopping, leads me to encourage you to go elsewhere. | Campus Maintenance: A, University Resource Use: F | | | |

| | Quite Bright | | WSU is a hit and miss school. You may love it. If you like doing the same things every day and drinking yourself into a coma every weekend, this school is for you. If you want an academic school where you can do new things and meet unique people to forge lifelong friendships with, you might be out of luck. Pullman is a drab and depressing town, and there is literally nothing to do. Moscow is like New York in comparison. The campus is the town for students. People here seem all the same, all wearing the same WSU hoodies, doing the same things ever day, etc. It's very hard to find an intelligent, unique, and motivated person. I forged many strong friendships in high school, but I can't find anyone similar who goes here. The academics are actually fairly good in most fields - definitely better than UW from what I have heard of their academics. The information they teach here is more meaningful, though there are still classes which are a load of BS. Stay away from pre-calculus. The department is suffering from budget cuts, the the students they employ as teachers are awful. Innumerable amounts of people fail this class because of how poorly it is run, and the faculty are no help whatsoever. It's better in other subjects. The music program here is supposed to be great, but my high school was far superior. Marching band is cool though. The dorm life is rather depressing. There is only one new building. The roommate matching is very hit and miss - sometimes you make a great friend, sometime you have barely anything in common. Campus food is okay, but it gets old fast. I have probably put on some weight, which I could work off, except the rec center is so far away I often don't have time in my day to walk all the way over there. Weather around here is also depressing, and the bitter cold and constant snow-followed-by-rain process is incredibly annoying. You will like this college if you are just one of the crowd. If you like getting drunk out of your mind and going to pointless parties, and if you enjoy doing the exact same things day after day. If you want a unique experience and interesting people, don't like the party atmosphere, you should look elsewhere. | Perceived Campus Safety: A, Surrounding City: D- | | | |

| | Not so bright | | I've really tried to like this school as much as I can, but there are major drawbacks, especially for someone like me. The campus itself is nice, and the classes are pretty good. From what I have heard from my friend at UW, I would say that the academics here are far more meaningful. However, STAY AWAY from pre-calculus. I was a straight-A student in math back in high school, but this program was so messed up, and was taught so poorly that I had to drop out of math. My first year architecture classes were a waste of time, and it seems that they care more about structure than design. The classes were graded way too harshly. I received an award in high school for excellence in architecture, and I could barely get better than a C for my projects in arch 101. Pullman is a pretty sleepy little town. Moscow is like Hollywood in comparison. Some people like the small town feel, but it's surely not for everyone. I came from a mid-sized town, and I just cannot handle this place. There is absolutely nothing to do, and you have to walk a long distance to just get to a grocery store. Dorm life has been pretty annoying to me. Mostly because of the actual people on my floor. The dorms themselves aren't that great, and they aren't too well placed. It takes nearly a half hour to walk to the rec center from Stephenson and Rogers. The people here are okay. I'm a music minor, so I meet most of my friends through there. People in music are always great. Still, most people here seem very generic - you have the jock types, the prep types. It seems everyone dresses the same and does the same things. This includes partying - if you don't drink and don't want to be in Greek society, you will feel outcast. I wouldn't exactly consider myself introverted, but I don't open to just anyone. In high school I easily made friends whom I still have a very strong connection with. I have yet to make one single friend of the same caliber at this school. Students often just don't seem interested in education. Overall, I enjoy the school itself, but the location and community has put me off. I also feel the architecture program is not my type, and so I will be going to Oregon to try out their program. | Perceived Campus Safety: A+, Surrounding City: D- | | | |
