Super Brilliant
I went to two BIG universities before I came here and as an intelligent woman, I didn't find myself challenged--I was bored. At Alverno, your education is what you make of it. If you CHOOSE to be lazy and do only the minimum to get by, then you're most likely going to be bored and you'll probably hate it here. However, if you challenge yourself to learn all you can and get involved on campus, professors will treat you with respect and more non-campus opportunities will come your way. I wouldn't hesitate to say that I think I'm getting a better education here than I would at an Ivy League school--and I encourage anyone looking for a challenge and not simply to be handed a degree at the end of 4 years to apply to Alverno.

Quite Bright
After transferring from the honors english program to Alverno's Professional Communications program I was plesantly surprised at the challenging nature of the curriculum. While I felt that UWM was barely challenging Alverno's integrated learning approach forced me to DEMONSTRATE my understanding of the materials taught rather than testing my recall and ability to take a test.
A major factor in my transfer to Alverno was the weekend college program which is attended primarily by adult students. What a refreshing change - we are expected to take responsibility for our own learning in accelerated classes. The professors do not babysit us or give us busywork. BUT there are plenty of ways to achieve an unsatisfactory in the program and only yhose dedicated to completion will graduate. A top notch communications program for adult women returning to school. I recommend it.

I loved Alverno! I am a recent grad who transfered in. There are some good and bad things about Alverno, but mostly good. There are no formal grades, so you are not working towards a letter, but beware, it is not an easy school. Faculty is wonderful in offering help, they make it harder for students to fail than to pass. It is an all-woman college, but there are guys around. There is a new president at the school and she seems intent on getting rid of the nuns, so I don't know where that will go. Also, watch out for financial aid. If you do not have kids or are not dirt poor, they will not help you find any decent financial aid. That being said, Alverno is a great investment.
Faculty Accessibility: A+, Campus Aesthetics: C+

When I started at Alverno the upperclass said Alverno is going down hill, you don't see it now but you will. I thought it was mid-way burn out but it is true. if you have any kind of learining disablity then Alverno is not for you. they dodge getting you services that you need and ask you to pay for costly test that they the school is resonable for.
Group work is a must at Alverno and your not allowed to express dislike or discontent with your group or you get told your not working well with others. So sit back do the extra work for the group and pretend you all worked hard.
This school has very katty females and clicks and if you live in dorms bear in mind that it's a good percentage of gay women there that can at times make you uncomftable(borderline sexual herrasment.
