The school works hard to develop the individual and encourages the individual to use the skills to help society. I feel like I grew up a lot in the four years. Milwaukee is a fun city with plenty for everyone. The basketball games are a big deal in the winter and of course The Brewers and the night life are also great. I had a very positive experience and made a lot of life long friends. I did put a lot into it and got a lot out of it. I think that made a big difference. Marquette is not a commuter school and that is why I think it has a sense of community that other city schools do not have. Some things worth noting,it is a city school so you have to have a certain tolerance for imperfection and diversity. Also to I think an upper middle class sensibility is necessary to get the most out of the school. I came from that kind of background and it was pretty easy to fit in and make friends. Noone outside of WI-IL has ever heard of Marquette. Wisconsin-Madison has top faculty and an excellent reputation all over the country and the world. Marquette is a low ranked tier 2 university for students who want to go to a private school because they think it is good. I am transferring out of here. Some staff are friendly and easily accessible, but many are not willing to help you understand course materials or grades. Dormitory directors have also shafted me, ignored my pleas for help, and made themselves completely unavailable. The campus is pretty, but then you see news reports of crime just blocks away. Visitation policies are absolutely ridiculous. Many (not all) students come from upper-middle class conservative families. I have felt completely ostracized by the people living in my dormitory, and the only place I feel truly accepted for who I am is at work in the cafeteria. All of the students working there have a strong work ethic and understand the need to work in order to continue their education. I am counting down the days until I am done with my freshman and only year at Marquette. Transferring is an awesome option. Campus Aesthetics: A-, Perceived Campus Safety: F Have a Question?
