I love Northland for the most part! You will find some downfalls to the school, but I think you will find that at any school you attend. Northland is not the school for everyone though. You definitely have to be willing to actively participate in small classes and be able to find ways to keep busy throughout the school year(Ashland is really not that big, but there are a lot of great things to do-especially outdoors. The Outdoor Education Dept. is wonderful and a lot of great learning experiences. I have gotten to know quite a few of the professors over the last three years and they care a lot about their students. You may have heard about all the changes that are going to occur at Northland in the the next few years, but they are for the best and the professors and the others who are in charge of the restucturing know what they are doing and have great ideas on how to make your learning experiences even better.

Northland is a great place. The students make it great. You get a great education and a broad outlook on the world. If you do not have an open mind and cannot tolerate those different from yourself this probably isn't going to be the place for you.

Northland is an interesting place. If I had the chance for a do over, I probably would. The only thing keeping me here is the department that I am in, otherwise the hippy, we're so cool, closeminded attitudes of the student body would have driven me insane long before now.

In general, the professors are helpful and really want you to pass. But if you're failing, they expect you to take the initiative. They expect you to be active in your studies. The academics are excellent but the social life is very much like high school. Because the campus is so small, everyone knows everyone else's business and it's not easy to break into established cliques. There is tons of space to get involved and really succeed at Northland.
