Let me just start off by saying i'm a huge sports fan and when looking for colleges to apply to, i wanted a big university with D1 football. I didn't get the best grades in high school so i was kind of limited, especially because my parents wouldn't allow me to apply anywhere more than 6 hours away. That took me to West Virginia University-an easy school to get into with my intended major and a it's a school where football is huge. It seemed like the perfect fit for me. I should have never even applied to this shit hole and committing here was the worst decision of my life.

Before committing to WVU, i know 3 people from my high school that were students here. One of them was going to be a senior during my freshman year, two of them were in the grade above me and left after just one semester because they were so miserable and the other was a student here about four years ago and her parents pulled her after one semester because she partied so much that she failed all of her classes. That should have been a sign to me that 3 of the 4 people failed to make it past one semester at WVU. But i thought things would be different for me. I toured the school twice and it was so pretty and the drive here from NJ is absolutely gorgeous. I couldn't have been more wrong.

I pretty much hated it here by the first week. The food here is absolutely DISGUSTING! I have NEVER in my life been more grossed out by food than i am here. It is literally vomit worthy. I basically starve every day because i can't bring myself to eat more than a salad. I live in Towers and our dining hall is Cafe Evansdale, i think it's the worst one on campus and of course it's the one i get stuck with in my dorm. It smells so bad that even walking past it you want to pass out and die from the smell. It doesn't even smell like food, it smells like pure asshole. Brew 'N Gold, which is the other place for food in Towers isn't too bad, but there aren't many selections so it gets old really fast. It's 100% better than Cafe Evansdale, but it's not open on weekends so you are kind of forced to eat in the Cafe. There is also Lyon's Den, which has a kitchen with chicken tenders, fries, wings, etc and it's actually really good but they don't accept meal plan so i wouldn't recommend going there for dinner all the time. And they are only open from 7-11pm Sunday-Thursday but it's nice to have a late night convenience store to get snacks, etc from your dorm.

What is even worse than the food? The bathrooms! They are so repulsive i don't even know how to describe it. The floors alone in the bathroom are dirty. They are full of hair, crumbs, toilet paper, etc. The toilets? Good luck finding a clean stall. There are only five and they always have unflushed toilets, poop or pee on the toilet seat, clogged toilets, etc. The showers are an absolute nightmare. The floors of the showers are so disgusting i GAG when i take showers. They floors in the showers are full of hair, both shaved and long hair and they are full of gunk. I don't even know what the gunk is, and i don't want to know that's how nasty it is. The shower water is freezing. I haven't been able to take a hot shower since i've been here and i've been here for two months. I literally get hypothermia every time i shower. The shower water smells like sulfur. I take showers as fast as possible because the water is freezing, it smells and the shower is so dirty than i feel like i'm getting more dirty by standing in the shower than i was before i got in. Please make sure you have shower shoes if you go here. I'm pretty sure you'd die of a disease without using them. Every university i toured, they all said that the hall bathrooms get cleaned like 6 times a day and that they are always clean. That is DEFINITELY not the case here. I see a cleaning lady in the bathrooms ONCE a day and that is IT. That is unacceptable.

The transportation here is a horror story. Their PRT system is so ancient that it breaks down dozens of times per DAY. I missed my first exam of the year because i got stuck on the PRT for TWO HOURS!!!! It broke down on the middle of the tracks next to a highway. It was still in the summer so it was HOT AS HELL. The people on it were about to pass out because we had no air conditioning and we had no way of getting out of the cart. Whenever the PRT is broken down (which is basically always), it's diffucult to get transportation because the buses fill up in seconds. Over the PRT speakers at the stations they always announce they are sending buses when it breaks down, BUT THOSE BUSES NEVER COME!!!! The transportation here is absolute shit, plain and simple. I don't understand how they can have so many damn problems with the PRT and not see anything wrong with it. REPLACE THE ANCIENT THING ALREADY! It's causing problems for students trying to get to classes everyday and they clearly don't give two shits.

The party scene here is outrageous. Literally ALL people do is party. I don't mind people going out on the weekends or something, but people go out every single day of the week and get hammered. They don't care about their academics at all. I've met so many people who openly state that they came here to party and not for school. So many people don't go to their classes or they don't do their work. In my Mass Communications class we have to purchase our scrantrons and two exams in a row this guy didn't even know we had an exam let alone have a scantron. I mean SERIOUSLY?! I understand that this is the #1 party school, but the amount of partying that goes on here is ridiculous. There is no balance between party and school. It's all party. I knew it was a party school coming in, but i never imagined it being this bad. Other schools that get ranked for partying definitely care about school, but not the idiots that come here. It's embarrassing.

And the riots/couch burning that goes on here? Disgraceful. I was EMBARRASSED to be a student here when this happened. After we beat Texas, they basically lit Grant St on fire. They had hundreds of police officers, firefighters, etc sent out and thousands of students were blocking them from doing their jobs. Students here were proud to say they were pepper sprayed by police during the riots. That is nothing to be proud of! Arson is a crime and it's sick that students think it's okay to light shit on fire BECAUSE WE WON A GAME! The players on the team were embarrassed to be associated with it! It made national news and only made me want to get out of here faster than before. Colleges all across the nation have big wins and don't pull stunts like this. ESPN College GameDay even refused to come to Morgantown for the Kansas State game after the riots and went to Gainesville instead because they didn't want to be associated with it. How students can take pride in something that made national news for something negative is beyond me. It's NOTHING to be proud of.

Speaking of their football team, never in my life have i ever been around so many arrogant fans. They all talk as if they Mountaineers are the greatest team on earth. Newsflash! They suck! I think i was one of the only ones who went to the Kansas State game knowing that we were going to get crushed. And guess what? WE DID! I think it finally shut down the asshole fans thinking this team was worthy of greatness. Being a diehard sports fan and being a diehard fan of a college football team not named the Mountaineers, i think i was one of the only students who was willing to admit that they suck.

I can't wait until December 12, 2012 because that is the last day i ever have to see this town, university and state. I cannot wait to get the fuck out of here. This experience has been absolutely miserable. Coming here was the worst mistake of my life. I am going to go home to NJ (Oh that is another thing. If you're from NJ, be prepared for basically every professor to make fun of NJ and mainly NJ drivers. Do they not realize that like 40% of WVU comes from NJ? Well guess what, i can make fun of the redneck, inbred, white trash, poor, trailer trash, no teeth West Virginian's if i so choose to as well-it works both ways), i will go to my local community college (which probably has better academics than WVU anyways) and i will work my ass off and hopefully get into my dream school of the University of Florida (GO GATORS!!!) If i don't, i will attend another SEC school. SEC >>> Big 12.One thing is for sure though, wherever my degree is from it is going to look a hell of a lot better than any degree from WVU. WVU has such a bad reputation and it's just getting worse. I wouldn't recommend anyone coming here. If you want a shot at a real career, good luck trying to be taken seriously by future employers with a degree from WVU. They are the laughing stock of the nation. Go somewhere else and get a quality education.

went to go talk about switching majors and other career options, come to find out the i had been withdrawn from all of my classes, for no apparent reason. after going through such a hassle and so much stress and fustration i withdrew completely from the university. advisors tried to convince me to stay the whole year only 2 weeks into the fall semester. all they care about is money. i was treated as a number, but with 30000 kids i guess thats how it is. anyway, they're so called "advice" was garbage and the administration gave me such a hard time about everything. despite faculty being friendly, deep down inside they do not care. once i decided to drop out, none of them gave me any respect. I pursuing my GECs at a local community college and WILL NOT even think about going back to WVU.

Quite Bright
I chose to attend West Virginia over UGA,Georgia Tech, University of Florida, and LSU. To me, it was the only school I had found that was a perfect mix of a fun state school as well as a reputable engineering school. Yes,being an out of state student, I will admit the first week was a bit unsettling, but what I love most about Morgantown is the school spirit. I made friends fast, and I always have fun. Yes, it is a party school. Yes, there are some people here who I look at and wonder how they even managed to graduate high school. But I love it. I am never bored here. The professors are more then willing to meet with you, and it is ideal for someone like me because after class, I can go back to my dorm, study for a few hours, and then go out at night. What it comes down to is the fact that if you want to get drunk every night, you can, and there will be plenty of people right there with you. Or you can stay in the study room all night, get work done, and find a group of friends to join you. Or you can be like me, and work your butt of Monday-Thursday, have an incredible weekend, then wake up Sunday and do it all again. All in all, I can't imagine myself being anything but a Mountaineer, and I am so glad I came here.
