Students swap stuff at campus freecycle event
by The Orion

Apr 21, 2009
“Freecycle - noun: An event in which you bring what you can, take what you want, help the Earth, help yourself and give the rest to fire victims.
Free and benefiting to the environment? It doesn't get much better.
Piles of clothes, boxes of books and binders and an eclectic assortment of trinkets were up for grabs and found new homes through the two freecycle events that have been held this month by Net Impact, a sustainable business group with a chapter on campus.”

Eric Wendt: Dear Chico
by The Orion

Apr 21, 2009
“Dear Chico,
Nice bathing suit. You're so right, floral prints never go out of style. Want me to rub some lotion on your back?
Anyway, did anyone catch Billy Bob Thornton's recent radio interview in Canada? The video has officially gone viral and it illustrates the sheer depths of douche-baggery an actor can sink to.”

Women's national tournament run sunk by Navy team
by The Orion

Apr 21, 2009
“After starting the season with 12 rookies, the Chico State women's rugby team overcame its inexperience to make it all the way to the Elite Eight in the Division-II national tournament in Sanford, Fla.
With the team competing against the nation's top 16 rugby teams, it's an accomplishment in itself, said senior flanker Stephanie Deras.”

Natalia Ferruggia: You gotta earn it
by The Orion

Apr 21, 2009
“MVP awards are cool, the Super Bowl trophy is dope, but polls are just plain whack.
While Internet browsing, I read on the Chico State athletic Web site that the 'Cats baseball team was recently ranked No. 4 in the inaugural NCAA West Regional Poll, which was released last week.”

Butte Humane Society not as nice to people as they are pets
by The Orion

Apr 21, 2009
“I love pussies and bitches. And by that, I mean kitties and puppies. But, Butte Humane Society makes me mad enough to kick a squirrel in the face.
Our little rescue center was recently in the top 10 of animal shelters in the running for a million-dollar makeover from ZooToo.”

Earth Day events for students, faculty
by The Orion

Apr 21, 2009
“Despite attempts to scale Earth Month back to fewer events, it is as big this year as it has ever been at the university.
Earth Month, which was held for the first time at Chico State in 1999, has grown bigger and has taken on a life of its own, A.S. Recycling Coordinator Robyn DiFalco said.”

Campus sees rise in chalked advertising, campaign plugs
by The Orion

Apr 21, 2009
“This spring, there has been a resurgence of chalked messages advertising Associated Students candidates and club events around campus.
Technically, chalking is defacing state property and students could face vandalism charges, but facilities management and services will decide that depending on the extent of damages, said University Police Lt.”

Women's softball drop another conference series
by The Orion

Apr 21, 2009
“Senior Day made for an emotional portion of the softball series hosted at University Stadium this weekend.
Posters were hung all along the home run fence and on the Chico State dugout, honoring third baseman Gwen Cox, who wears No. 5.
The series against the San Francisco State Gators was a 3-1 series loss, but the team was led by Cox, who tied the Chico State record for most stolen bases in a season with 25, and doubled home the game-winner for a 4-3 victory in game one of Saturday's doubleheader.”
