Commencement 2009 by The HeightsMay 25, 2009“Despite rain and a pervasive chill, Boston College graduated the class of 2009 during the 133rd Commencement Exercises on Monday morning. Family, friends, faculty, and administrators filled Alumni Stadium to celebrate the achievements of the graduates, who huddled under a sea of umbrellas and blankets while many onlookers took cover in Conte Forum as the University bestowed baccalaureate, masters, and doctoral degrees to 3,000 undergraduate and graduate students. After the Rev. Michael G. Boughton, S.J., director of the Center for Ignatian Spirituality, gave the invocation, University President Rev. William P. Leahy, S.J., offered welcoming remarks. He thanked the departing graduates for the contributions they have made to BC over the years they have spent on its campus: "You enlivened our classrooms, theatre, libraries, residence halls, and playing fields. You brought spirit and joy not only to faculty and staff who worked with you at BC but also to people off campus whose lives you touched in your volunteer activities," he said. "Boston College is a different place because you have been part of our community, and we are grateful."”
An Olympic Disillusion by The HeightsOct 04, 2009“A giant stadium stands empty, its paint gently peeling. A village nearby is vacant and deserted. It may sound like the result of war or a natural disaster, but it is just Olympic leftovers. The Olympics are the crown jewel of sports and a universal symbol of unity.”
Current students could see new housing by The HeightsOct 04, 2009“The Institutional Master Plan (IMP) has graced the Heights' pages many times, but how will it actually affect the students who currently attend Boston College? The IMP - a 10-year plan that proposed scores of physical changes to BC's Middle, Lower, and Brighton campuses - has been approved by the Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA), the Boston Zoning Commission, and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino.”

Yoni Wolf And Co. Capture A Rowdy Middle East by The HeightsOct 04, 2009“When a man in a Smithsonian Institute sweatshirt makes airplane gestures with his arms in front of a basement of 200 people, an odd sensation occurs. It's quirky. It seems unsettling, yet it captivates. It's Why? No really, it's Yoni Wolf, the front man of the Oakland band Why?, jiggling and gyrating and swooping his arms like an errant biplane about to dive into the crowd, crooning through his mustache "Even though I haven't seen you in years, yours is the funeral I'd fly to from anywhere," while his brother bangs simultaneously on drums and xylophone, the tubby bassist takes a swig of his imported beer, and the entire house shouts along.”
Addition Of Teixeira Makes Yanks' Infield One Of The Best by The HeightsOct 04, 2009“How far can $78 million get you in Major League Baseball? For 40 percent of the league, it can fund your entire roster. For the Yankees, it might have given them the best infield baseball has ever seen. In the past, the Yankees have taken plenty of flak for their enormous payroll and recent playoff struggles.”

What we think: Opportunity for dialogue is undermined Students this semester have encountered an addition to their morning routine every Friday. Thumbs Up / Thumbs Down by The HeightsOct 04, 2009“Thumbs Up GameDay - The weather was chilly; the sky was dreary and overcast; rain was falling; but somehow, College GameDay was absolutely beautiful.
