I would highly recommend Maranatha to anyone who is looking for a quality education from an accredited Christian college. The academics are excellent, ranking in the top percentages of liberal arts colleges in the United States. The teachers sincerely love the students and are almost without exception experts with many years of experience in their fields. I highly reccomend the History and English Department faculty. There is a great teacher-to-student ratio, so access to the teachers in and out of class is excellent. The administration prays for the entire student body (over eight hundred in 2001) every week.
There are many and varied majors and minors to choose from, but all four-year students have a Bible core of 30 hours. This core does not take away from the other courses, however; it is in addition to a complete General Studies Core and all the required courses you would take for your major. This gives every single Maranatha student a solid Bible foundation in addition to a secular education that is above reproach.
The school does have standards and requirements that some would consider "strict", as I do personally. However, when a person decides to attend a college, he or she should request a copy of the student handbook and read it carefully. If you are not willing to abide by the rules of an institution, you should not attend, for your own sake as well as for your fellow students. There are no rules so unbearable that you could not live with them, such as separate sidewalks for guys and girls, or unreasonable dress codes like some other institutions which shall remain nameless. Many would consider me a "liberal Christian", and I survived (nay, enjoyed) five years there just fine.
The campus is beautiful, from the historic Century House to the Main Building, and the new Library. There are three computer labs with wonderfully, updated technology. The men's and women's dorms are very nice and every building on campus is continually being improved. Watertown is a friendly, historic town, with many job opportunites available in the surrounding community. Maranatha is only half an hour from the state capitol of Madison, and forty five minutes from Milwaukee.
I would give Maranatha an A+ and my highest reccomendation. I am so glad I went there, and I hope someday my kids will, too.
