" My experience at Bennington College was very positive. Unfortunately, in the early 1990s there was a purge and coup at Bennington. The current President engineered this coup, firing first-rate tenured faculty according to her whim, and hiring lesser faculty at lower salaries to teach the same courses, using the lie that they were "practitioners," ie, poets, painters, and dancers, rather than mere "teachers." In fact, Bennington has always had a fair share of practioners, many of whom were fired in the purge. Bennington had been censured by the AAUP, the APA, the MLA, the CAA, and every reputable professional organization. The real blame for this situation lies not in the President--who has held the office for some fifteen years, longer than Hitler was chancellor of Germany--but in the dishonest and dishonorable Trustees, who have empowered this sociopath and degraded a first-rate institution to a fourth-rate one. I recommend that all civilized people boycott this disgraced, shabby little college. "
