FIU was a great mix of learning and an exciting social life. The School of Computer Science (my major) is vastly under-rated. The professors are extremely knowledgeable in their respective fields and Professors Weiss and Irvine are authors of the most widely used textbooks in their fields. The CS school is constantly being upgraded in terms of facility and equipment. The school of business (my minor) was also impressive with professors that have actual business experience (example: one of my professors was a current VP of a Miami company). Which brings me to one of the best things about FIU: it is in beautiful Miami. Miami has arguably the 2nd best nightlife in the US (behind NYC). The weather year-round is great for the beach and other outdoor activities. Major businesses base their Latin American operations in Miami and some businesses are headquartered here. This provides for internships and career opportunities otherwise not available in a small city. Campus Life at FIU was non-existent my first two years. Then we got our football team and spirit and activities are plenty (the MTV Campus Invasion Tour was at FIU this year as an example and NOT at U of Miami). If you choose FIU you will get a good education and a great experience. Like anything in life, it is what you make of it.
