Please do not go to this school if you are in a science field!!!! You WILL NOT be academically prepared for any post-Lane work. This school does not have the proper resources to ensure a quality education in any science field. The building and labs are dilapidated(most of the equipment is from the '60's), the science cirriculum is dumb-downed (most science classes dont have the lab component), not one professor is conducting research let alone publishing, and the professors will pass you for just coming to class regardless if you know the material.

Even if the actual class average is an F,the grading scale is as follows: C for coming to class,B for doing a little work,A for turning in a few assignment and scoring higher than other students on quizzes/papers/exams. Rarely does a science professor put the daily lecture content for the entire semester on the syllabus or even complete the required text in a semester. Instead of having a standard and encouraging students to meet that standard, they dumb-down the work so the same inner-city, first generation collge students that came to Lane academically disadvantaged can leave Lane at the same or at a greater disadvantage. The turnnover rate of the professors is ridiculous, financial aid practices are bordering illegal, social life is non-existent, the rules are overbearing and the president is a mindless, babbling control freak that does not know how or refuses to delegate authority.

Despite numerous attempts, the president will not allow any advancement in the science department simply becuase he will not get the credit for it or be in control of it.Professors quit because they cant take his extreme dictatorship,he doesnt give the funding to the science department to get materials or resources to educate students, or he fires them for giving student the grades they actually earn.

If you dont believe me ask any the following:
1.What percentage of students go on to dental/medical/pharmacy school from Lane?
2.Ask a professor if she/he is currently conducting research.
    3. Try to obtain a list of more than 15 names of students and contact info that have went on to professional school in the last ten years directly from Lane.
    4. Other than the Biology club, what other science organizations are there( no allied health clubs,SNMA,MARCS,...etc.)?
    5. Ask for a DAT/MCAT/GRE study guide from yoor advisor your freshman year.
    6. Then ask what are the average scores on the tests of Lane students.
    6. Bring in cirriculums and syllabi from other institutions and compare them with you own.
    7. Ask anyone why you dont have labs for all your science classes or any state-of-the art equipment and what is being done so that you will.
    8. Notice how my study groups regularly meet for your major science class.

I guarantee the results will back up everything I've said.

The ONLY way to succeed in any science field at Lane College is to teach yourself EVERYTHING because the professors could care less and to get the lab component it may be necessary to take classes at Union or Lambuth.

Overall, Lane College is more concerned with looking good to the CME church community and fostering the corruption of the administration than making sure the students are prepared academically for the real word. The administration rountinely 'doctors' ETS test scores and when speakers, observers,or potential students come to Lane, the administration has preselected brainwashed students to lie on cue about how great the school is. These 'random' students usually end up working at Lane becuase even with their high G.P.As, they arent prepared or qualified for the real world.

I am not a bickering student that wants to complain because of my own incapabilities;I am a concerned graduate warning others about the honest to God truth about Lane College.I am now in a professional school but I had to work twice as hard to catch up. I didnt realize how important choosing the right college was in high school but I feel obligated to tell anyone at this school to truly reconsider. ACADEMICS ARE NOT THE FOCUS OF LANE!!!!!!!I became easily enamored with the nurturing environment and the familial atmosphere and put less emphasis on the furture. At Lane, becoming comfortable with unearned good grades is to become acceptable of being nationally uncompetitive and unprepared. At Lane, its 'easy' to get an 'A' but even easier to flunk yourself. Lane College is not worth the headache.
