As a recent graduate of Maharishi University, I can say with complete certainty that going to college has prepared me for my current career.

It is very common for students (like me) to graduate from MUM and apply our skills from one discipline (like Chemistry, say), and apply it to another discipline (like sociology). This was the case for me.

Making seat of the pants life changes (like this) are not for the faint of heart. By "sticking out" my four years of study at Maharishi University I have discovered vast amounts of intellectual courage within. I have needed all of my courage in order to properly deal with the unique challenges of studying at Maharishi University. These challenges included the difficult to resolve paradox of learning western science from the point of view of eastern spiritual masters, such as Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

While the thoughts and opinions of Maharishi do not directly affect the curriculum, both myself and my professors have taken the opportunity of being at Maharishi University to consider modern science from the view of an ancient sage. This is a certainly rather incredible point of view! The view from the mountaintop is always different from what it is like struggling in the mud below. I am someone who firmly believes in the power of scientific inquiry to free the human intellect. It seems as if spiritual inquiry has a legitimate claim to being just as effective as Science. If so, then people like Maharishi are justified as saying that spirituality is simply a refined version of science -- that both are founded on the same laws of nature, which also structure the experience of reality that each of us has.

By being a student at Maharishi University, I have gained the ability to look at science from a holistic perspective. Among other things, I am very keenly aware of observer bias -- in any issue of human debate, whether science, religion, or politics. Being able to see bias is important -- it gives me as an advisor and consultant the ability to give advice that is helpful to other people -- in a way that minimizes any unconscious favoritism I have towards my own interests.

In that way, by bringing the attention of the observer into the understanding of Science as a whole, the ethics and program of study at Maharishi University allow a person to make great progress in scientific inquiry later on in life, even though the details of scientific history are not emphasised at Maharishi University.

I have to say that my Chemistry person was an absolutely wonderful guide. In large part because of my study with him, I have a deep understanding of the laws of nature, and the implications that chemistry has for shaping the natural environment.

A general pattern at Maharishi University that I would like to note is that the faculty are often kind, generous, and knowledgeable people, who support the free investigations of their students, even to the extent of shielding them from undue censorship. That said, the administrative levels of the University, above the faculty, have a rather strong tendency toward censorship and anti-student behaviour. This would seem to be somewhat of the reverse of the majority of Universities in America, am I right? -- No matter what, the on-going censorship dialog at Maharishi University continues to be a source of great intrigue, speculation, and frustration. For me, this all has been a really neat example of sociology in action.

In any case, if you are up for a truly unique experience, and have the financial and emotional resources to be (or become) fully awake, aware, and independent, then this is the University for you. It was for me.
