Sarah Lawrence College is a place where a lot of wealthy, unique, intelligent people go. One personal quality that is in very short supply is kindness. It is a mean-spirited place. Many students are very unhappy -- not with the school, but with life in general. The school's public relations efforts tend to put a positive spin on the mental health issues by making it sound like students are nutty and goofy. They are for the most part not. They are often really sick. 'Sick' as in mean, sometimes real mean. Sick as in wanting to cause harm to others. It has a long reputation for mean-spiritedness. Most students who have any social life do not socialize on campus. They go to new York. People that have a social life probably aren't going to be interested in sharing it with you. This is not a nice place. Avoid. Look up what J.D Salinger had to say about the place. (It has gotten worse since he wrote). Take a look at a book called "The Shadow University". It has a section detailing some really vicious administrative behavior at SLC towards some students regarding free speech on campus. Everything bad you hear about SLC is true, true, true. Everyhting good you hear can be found elsewhere for much, much less. Avoid. (Unless you are also a sick, crazy, mean-spirited person. They you will fit right in with lots of other unhappy people).

BTW, 'diverse' and 'eclectic' at SLC means you only wear black, chain smoke, have a problem keeping weight on, and never smile.

    Avoid, avoid, avoid.
