It's getting harder because of the popularity from the Football program. You'll need about a 3.85 and a 1200, not as easy as it was 4 years ago...
Accounting
I had to complete the application but there was no essay required to get in. I think an essay is required to get in now. Make sure you have plenty of volunteering experience and good grades (I had a 4.3 average in high school but I recommend at least a 3.4 to get in). AP classes will help you get in and if you have passed any AP classes you will likely get credit for some of the core classes. Less emphasis is being placed on SATs but it is important to at least have a decent score. If you are an all around good student with volunteer experience, you shouldn't have a problem being accepted.
Business - Management and Administration
Apply early. That is the key. ASU now receives more than 11,000 applications so it is becoming increasingly competitive.
Computer Science
I had no extracurricular activities in high school, took no AP courses, and got a moderate score on the old SAT (1200), but I had some college credit from dual enrollment and a 3.5ish GPA. I got in first try. That was four years ago. Word is that Appalachian is now one of the hottest choices out there and is quickly becoming one of the tougher NC schools to get in to, so don't take my story as gospel.
Journalism
It's not hard; not easy either. Just do your work and make the grades, you'll get in eventually.
| History/Histories (art history/etc.)
Send in all paper work and applications a year early. ASU is not the hardest place to get in, but it does take a little elbow work, and good test scores.
History/Histories (art history/etc.)
I had no problem transferring to ASU. I started my studies at a community college, and tried two regular four year colleges which I hated (Like Catawba College & UNCG).I sent my application and transfer credits to ASU, and in four weeks I received an acceptance letter. The faculty and staff have gone out of their way to help me and make the transition very smooth.
Anthropology
It wasn't hard to get in, I don't believe. Apparently since the whole football nonsense things have tightened up a bit. I had a 3.7 GPA and I think over 900 SAT-I know my math was disproportionately low. My ACT was higher but I do not recall. I was accepted right away, and I have since transferred to New York. If you are set on this university-apply more than once if you are rejected. Do volunteer work. Speak with current students and helpful faculty. Make yourself known instead of being a number.
Sociology
It was the only place I applied. I loved the mountain area and my friends who had gone there before me never had any complaints. I definitely don't regret going to ASU. I'd recommend applying to the Watauga program. When you are there, resist the urge to go out of town every weekend. Enjoy what Boone has to offer. If you like to go to bars until 4 AM, Boone isn't the place for you. If you like to meet a lot of interesting people, get to know your dormmates, get outside, and learn about local culture and social issues, ASU is your place.
Political Science
Very simple application process... Try to get in-state tuition... Its one of the best deals in the nation.
