The amount of busy work required for these classes takes totally away from the learning aspect of education. It takes more time to find references than it does to write an article on discussion board and those in their selves are astronomically time-consuming. I have never worked so hard and so much on discussion boards for such minimum points. Then we have the responsibility of replying to others and the hindrance of only being able to post one reply-discussion board a day. This takes away from our time management and being able to handle the work load. Most people working on a BSN are employed, have families, and responsibilities. The way that these classes are structured are not conducive to learning or time management. I barely have time to read a chapter and most of the time it has been impossible to read the chapter because there is constantly something due that is a busy work assignment. How is a person to read and learn if it takes 40+ hours to do discussion boards and writing assignments constantly? The opening of some assignments during the middle of a week are not fair. Part of the allure of an on-line class is to be able to manage the time. If a week opens with assignments and the test or discussion board is not even open until 4-5 days into the week then how is someone to effectively have time management if assignments are constricted. Remember, most people have jobs. We pay thousands of dollars to obtain an education then we are overloaded with massive amounts of assignments in a short period of time that it is almost impossible to balance home-life, work-life and school-life. I can honestly say that the little that I have learned was by mere accident because the amount of the unnecessary busy work in the classes hinders a person from reading, learning, and retaining. These classes set people up for failure. I am disappointed. I was hoping to actually learn and enjoy broadening my education. This event has done none of the above except to cause undue stress, financial cost and take time away from my life and family. Questions to an instructor are often not addressed or not addressed in a timely manner. Often, I did not receive a response back from an instructor. I am again discouraged in the educational system in this country.
