Write an essay about public service or saving the world. Gets the admission staff every time. But to be honest, just spell your name correctly and you should be golden.
I knew what I wanted to do, and I talked about it in my entrance essay. I'd also recommend taking AP courses to get out of as many basic classes as you can (it's way cheaper).
Write a good essay and have great recommendations. Also, do well in school. Grades matter more than test scores (SAT/ACT), and so does the quality of the courses you take. Don't take lamo classes.
