I had a lot of strong extracurriculars (exchange student, girls state 3rd overall, tons of art awards), decent sats (1400) and a very strong art portfolio. I had hoped to go to a "better" school, but now I'm very glad I didnt.

i am really amazed that i got in. i had a 2.9 in hs and got a 1320, not so great. the only reason i attended is because i got in, i figured it would be the logical decision. it seems like there's alot of kids here who got in purely because of their sat's and they had crappy gpa's in hs. i don't know how much extracuriculars factor in but i played alot of violin and rowed for 3 years so maybe that helped.
SAT: 1320 Female

i think it was easy to get in, my SATs weren't very high and my gpa wasn't either.

I was one of those guys in high schoolMay 20 2005Business - Management and Administration
I was one of those guys in high school who wasn't a "geek" but secretly spent considerable amounts of time on the internet. So when I applied to CMU, I pretended I was a "geek".

It is highly adviseable that, when applying to CMU, you pretend that you are the following:
- spend lots of time on computers
- are highly skilled in mathematics or sciences
- follow orders and instructions with immaculate detail
- have a dull & boring outlook toward your future life
- have no time for friends, family or anything that isn't powered by electricity

Also, submit your application as early as possible. The best undergraduate housing (at the time of this writing) is New House because it is co-ed and air-conditioned. Otherwise you will be stuck in co-ed housing with no AC, or worst of all, you will be stuck in a single-gender building with no AC.

I went through the Carnegie Mellon application process, which is fairly standard. One advantage to the architecture department is that you don't need a portfolio to get in.
