The admissions landscape is much more competitive now than when I was admitted. My application wouldn't be exceedingly competitive now with my high school marks (SAT 1340, GPA 3.5). I performed a lot of community service in high school, which I continued at Colgate. I was also active in athletics (although not at a collegiate-worthy level), and extracurricular activities such as musical performance.

SATs and a solid essay. Also need a well rounded resume.
Chemistry
Chances are better if you apply ED. Schedule an interview even though they're not required; you'll be glad you did. Colgate wants to know what you can contribute to the town-gown relations because the school is such an integral part of the community and how you would potentially change the dynamic of the campus. It's a great place!

I am getting my undergraduate degree in teaching (history) and will be getting my master's degree in teaching from Colgate, too...it's one of a handful of graduate programs offered here, which is amazing. It's a small program with a great reputation. The campus, facilities, and professors are phenomenal at Colgate and I am very satisfied.
English
Pretty tough and not worth the effort, unfortunately. The teachers are fine--you can learn here--but the student body is criminal.
English
Extras, extras, extras. They really look for leaders of clubs and such.
Journalism
Don't need any financial aid. Colgagte university likes people who can pay the hefty tuition bill in full.
Philosophy
I scored well on standardized tests and had a challenging high school course load. At the time when I applied it was one of the easier schools to get accepted to on my list.
