Accounting
UPPER-DIVISION TRANSFER STUDENT: I have a 4.0 GPA, completed every course on the required and recommended list, and if 3 units were required but 6 were recommended, I took the 6 units. I had several years of full-time work experiencec in the field, as well. Basically, I was the perfect applicant...
I was offered admission in early March, and it felt good.
However, a month after I applied I ended up changing my major to something more inspiring, something that would allow me to make an impact on the world. I decided that Accounting, profits, and the bottom line were not going to make me feel good. In business, unfortunately, you can't be for profits AND people.
At Poly you can't change the major you're applying for after you submit your application. If you want to switch you must enroll as your accepted major, then spend 1 to 2 quarters at Poly before you can APPLY to switch majors. Be sure about your major before you apply, and good luck.

I did a lot of community service throughout middle school and high school. It was really rewarding and helping me mature and be ready for college. I studied hard for the SATs and got a tutor, which helped more than I know.
Biology
A high gpa and SAT are key for Cal Poly. I'd focus more on those than extracurriculars. A 3.9 (weighted) and 1250 SAT seem to be the norm these days.
Business - Management and Administration
Getting in depends on what you want to major in. The hardest are architecture, business and engineering. Admission is mostly based on GPA and SAT scores. Average GPA is near 4.0 and SAT in the high 1200s.
Computer Science
Getting in felt a lot less competitive than getting into a UC just because you didn't really have to write an essay. Clearly what matters is your SAT score and GPA. Also there is a question about if your job related to you work experience at the end (this is definitely a plus).

Just have good grades. My high school gpa was 3.5.
Electrical Engineering
Cal Poly takes a huge chunk in determining your admission from GPA and test scores, so higher is usually always better, with small chunks from extracurricular activities and work experience. You are only competed against applicants who are applying for the same major as you. My GPA was 3.8 and I had a 1290 on the SAT, so getting in was not too much problem for me. As long as you are above the average stats, you should be fine, but admissions seem pretty random nowadays.
Journalism
Getting in wasn't difficult for me. Transferring in helped.
Psychology
If you want to get in:
-have a strong gpa
-have strong SAT (btw, the test is a bunch of bs, as you'll learn)
-good essay
-extracurricular stuff =pretty much everything they tell you you'll need for college
Psychology
application is really easy, wont take much time at all and no essay required
